wisem2540 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I am trying to do something like this... $var = Regread($Value) If @Error < 0 Then Msgbox(0,"test", "Does Not Exist") Else Msgbox(0,"test", "Does Exist") But everytime I do, it tells me I cant use ELSE without a matchinf IF statement. Why does this not work?
BrewManNH Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 If you are using an If statement with more than one possible result, you have to write it like this. $var = RegRead($Value) If @error < 0 Then MsgBox(0, "test", "Does Not Exist") Else MsgBox(0, "test", "Does Exist") EndIf If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day. water Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 (edited) You have to put everything after "Then" in a new line: $var = Regread($Value) If @Error Then Msgbox(0,"test", "Does Not Exist") Else Msgbox(0,"test", "Does Exist") EndIf I would also not only test for negative @error values. Everything that is not 0 is an error (positive and negative). See the help file for RegRead: Failure: Returns "" and sets the @error flag: 1 if unable to open requested key 2 if unable to open requested main key 3 if unable to remote connect to the registry -1 if unable to open requested value -2 if value type not supported Edited February 14, 2013 by water My UDFs and Tutorials: Spoiler UDFs: Active Directory (NEW 2024-07-28 - Version 1.6.3.0) - Download - General Help & Support - Example Scripts - Wiki ExcelChart (2017-07-21 - Version 0.4.0.1) - Download - General Help & Support - Example Scripts OutlookEX (2021-11-16 - Version 1.7.0.0) - Download - General Help & Support - Example Scripts - Wiki OutlookEX_GUI (2021-04-13 - Version 1.4.0.0) - Download Outlook Tools (2019-07-22 - Version 0.6.0.0) - Download - General Help & Support - Wiki PowerPoint (2021-08-31 - Version 1.5.0.0) - Download - General Help & Support - Example Scripts - Wiki Task Scheduler (2022-07-28 - Version 1.6.0.1) - Download - General Help & Support - Wiki Standard UDFs: Excel - Example Scripts - Wiki Word - Wiki Tutorials: ADO - Wiki WebDriver - Wiki
wisem2540 Posted February 14, 2013 Author Posted February 14, 2013 Thanks guys, that worked. In this instance, I am only checking to see if it exsists, and it it does not (which should only be a -1) then I will write one. Am I correct in my logic?
Apples292 Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Yep you're spot on with your logic Thanks Apples292
