wisem2540
Here is an example host file... # Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host 127.0.0.1 localhost I would like to add a comment line and add data between it, like this... # Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. So I can make sure and not touch any other data. I looked at SetFilePos, but I couldnt see this functionality.
BrewManNH
Open the file in append mode (FileOpen("your file name here", $FO_APPEND)) then just use the returned file handle and FileWriteLine, and it will put your text at the end of the file. No need to get fancy. BTW, don't add the "#" before what you're adding unless it's a comment, otherwise it will have no effect. wisem2540
I see your point, but in a situation where names or IPs could change, I would be in a situation where I might be interested in replacing the whole NEWSTUFF Section.
wisem2540
Just Wondering if I could use INIWrite to make this work. I may test that, since it supports sections.
wisem2540
Ok, I think this will work.... #include <File.au3> _FileWriteToLine($sFile, $iLine, $sText [, $fOverWrite = 0]) Can you tell me how I may be able to find which line Number NEWSTUFF is on? Then I could start $iline at the next line.
guinness
Your initial question has now changed. Do you mean find the last line in the file? If you want to append, then just use FileOpen with the flag for append and then FileWrite. wisem2540
Appending will work for the first go-round. But if I ever wanted to replace that section, how can this be done? So if I append: #NEWSTUFF blah blah #ENDOFNEW Is there a way to find which line "#NEWSTUFF" is on, and which line "#ENDOFNEW" is on, so that I can replace what is in between? guinness
Simple solution, use _FileReadToArray to read the file to an array and enumerate through the array checking for those strings.
