Hide .exe extension from icon

7 posts in this topic

Noob here!

When I compile a script the icon created shows the .exe file extension and I was wondering if there is anyway to remove that. In my opinion it makes the icon look bad.

Thanks for your time

hiding extension is not an Autoit feature. It is a general settings for all your files.

I understand that, just wondering if there is a way to comile the scipt and have it look more like a windows icon. Like the IE or chrome icon. Actually I just created a shortcut, renamed the shortcut and that worked. Thanks for the reply!

Much appreciated

Those icons are shortcut icons, not exe files, you can name a shortcut anything you want.

Do you know if there is a way to compile it without the .exe showing up? After I created the shortcut and renamed it I realized that people could then go into the properties and edit the "target" and "start in" inputs, which I do not want. What I am doing is creating a script that points to an application on a server that they personally dont have permissions too. And I am just creating an executable of that scrip and placing it on there desktop which they cant remove or edit. The .exe extension showing up isnt a big deal I would just like it to so it looks more like the original icon "bait and switch". And I know show or hide file extesions is an option but I can expect people to check that just so my icon looks the way I want it too. So Im just wondering if it is possible to remove the .exe or compile a script without the .exe showing up in the icon name.

Thanks Again

Create a shortcut to your application, then you don't need to worry about extensions. Also, you can name your compiled exe anything you want by including this line in your script before you compile it.

#AutoIt3Wrapper_Outfile=C:\Temp\somefile.exe

You will need the full version of SciTE4AutoIt3 installed for that to work.
