Keystroke recorder - making it work ... ?

Hi!

On this page here, http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=37034entry223245, there is a neat-sounding way to do change shortcut icons in Windows en masse. It's described like this:

I found a solution late last night. 1st I opened the file folder containing all the shortcuts. Then I put it in LIST view style. Then I turned on my mouse/keyboard recorder and changed one shortcut manually using the keyboard. Advanced to the next shortcut. Stopped the recorder at that point.

F R [[opened the properties window]]
C  V  [[pasted the path & location of the new icon image file]]
 [[closed the properties window]]
 [[advance to the next file]]

I set the recoder to play that back 7000 times, and down the list it went. It changed all the shortcut icons with great dispatch! Much faster than me doing it manually.

I googled + found references to the AI + AutoHotkey recorders being used for repeating keystrokes even if not specifically for this type of thing. I hadn't thought of using either recorder since I figured there might be trouble with extraneous keystrokes bungling things up but then thought to try anyway. Sure enough, script stops quickly on without finishing.

Any way to whittle down that keystroke recorder so it'll work? I deleted "extraneous text" lines but still no go. I use List View as the OP says s/he does above. So would be nice if it would just travel down the list, changing the icon.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get this to work?

(p.s., I'm okay with pressing the script manually, rather than setting it to repeat x-number of times, which I don't know how to do easily anyway, so code for looping the script somehow not needed.)

Thx.

Hi, thanks for this link. I'll give it a try.

Oops, my av scanner is giving me an "SPR/AutoIt.Gen" alert. What the heck is that, anyone know?

Cheers,

p.s., it's been some time since I needed to post on the forum and didn't get a notification in an email that there was a response. I did request to follow this post. What's the deal with the new, to me at least, forum? Thx. :)

There is a source. Many scripts are compressed UPX-th issue a warning. I am inclined to think, not to compress more.
