Unless you're super anal about the use of global variables, which in many cases using OnEvent mode are hard to get around (but not impossible), there's no real disadvantage to using OnEvent mode. In fact I've found that the GUI controls are more responsive in OnEvent mode than in message loop mode because you're not having to process the messages every time you loop through your "keep-alive" loop.
