Not able to read $ symbol from excel

4 posts in this topic

Hi,

My excel file has a field with '$' symbol in it. When i read the excel using AutoIt, only the value along with $ is got. Like i have a value '$3.5' in my excel column. When it is read only 3.5 is displayed in the application. Is there a way to get '$3.5' completely from excel.

When you click on the cell in Excel, what does it show? I'm going to guess that it only shows 3.5 instead of $3.5 because the cell is formatted to display the text as a dollar amount. You'd need to read the format of the cell itself to determine what the text inside of it is supposed to represent. Although, if you know that the value in a certain cell is supposed to be a dollar amount, you can account for it when you pull that value out of Excel.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

In the Excel it is shown as '$3.5' itself.

When using my Rewrite of the Excel UDF you could use function _Excel_RangeRead and set parameter $iReturn = 3 to retrieve the displayed text ($3.5).
