Jewtus
I'm trying to find a way to process an AFP file into something usable. I've done some googling and it seems that the file is only supported for devices that support AFP files, but I can't even install a afp file reader without admin access on my machine (which I don't have). Does anyone have an idea on how I could extract components from afp files?
BrewManNH
What is the file being used for? There's a few references to different programs that use a file with this extension, so it would help if we knew which program created this file. If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day. Jewtus
The file is dropped from a mainframe (I know... its super antiquated) but they use WinVI to open it, which I assumed notepad++ could handle it but I guess there is some sort of plugin for WinVi that allows the file to open. I actually don't have the ability to open it myself, it was sent to me from another person that requested a way to extract the info from the file. Jewtus
I tried a couple (file viewer lite; Pagetec AFP-View) but AFPViewer does seem to do the trick. Is there a way of extracting the text only from this file into something that I can loop through? There are very specific strings that I'm looking for in the file itself and right now it is done manually.
water
Can you save the converted PDF file as text to disk? Jewtus
Well I tried to convert the file using AFP Viewer and it basically made the file explode... Everything got all jumbled up and its essentially useless. I am playing around with some of the other outputs (which I think XML MIGHT work its just going to be very complicated...) water
When searching the web I've found a lot of "AFP converters" too. Maybe they work better than AFP viewers. Jewtus
Ya I found a few tools. I'm looking at the ones that have cmd line calls. Price tag on some of them are insane though (one was $3500 USD!). I'll have to do some searching. Worst case I'll use XML and build an extractor. Thanks for the advice all.
