MichaelCrawley Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 (edited) So when I try to open an excel document in autoIT see's the excel file as two different files. One called Hourly and one called MEB. The space in the file name is the problem and if I could rename the file I would but these files are used by a lot of different groups. I have tried single and double quotes around "Hourly - CVB1.xlsm", 'Hourly - CVB1.xlsm' I am new to autoIT I only have a couple week of expeirence. Any help or pointing me to a resource would be helpful. //FAILS Func openExcel() Run("C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16\excel.exe \\fileserver\Groups\folder1\folder2\folder3\Hourly - CVB1.xlsm") WinWait('excel') EndFunc ;==>openExcel // WORKS - I wanted to test my function just to make sure and it Works Func openExcel() Run("C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16\excel.exe \\fileserver\Groups\folder\folder2\folder3\Hourly-MEB.xlsm") WinWait('excel') EndFunc ;==>openExcel Edited February 22, 2023 by MichaelCrawley clerification
Solution Danp2 Posted February 22, 2023 Solution Posted February 22, 2023 You could try using ShellExecute instead of Run. You could also try something like this -- Run('"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16\excel.exe" "\\fileserver\Groups\folder1\folder2\folder3\Hourly - CVB1.xlsm"') where double quotes surround both file paths and a single quote is used as a delimiter for the entire string. P.S. There are UDFs to manage Excel. See "Excel Management" in the help file. Latest Webdriver UDF Release Webdriver Wiki FAQs
MichaelCrawley Posted February 22, 2023 Author Posted February 22, 2023 So that worked thanks so much: ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16\excel.exe" "\\fileserver\Groups\folder1\folder2\folder3\'Hourly - CVB1.xlsm'") I knew I had to seperate the string so I was trying stuff like the above. I have a long ways to go in using autoIT - Thanks for your help!

MichaelCrawley Posted February 23, 2023 Author Posted February 23, 2023 (edited) I am very new to AutoIT, I think that was committed earlier, and I am not sure of all of the default functions are in AutoIT. I come from the scripting and powershell side of things and just learning AutoIT. If you could share with I am 100% open Edited February 23, 2023 by MichaelCrawley clerification

water Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 The big advantage of an UDF (User Defined Functions) is the included error checking. Plus each function is a wrapper to hide complexity and make coding easier.
