Hello,

Can somebody please explain why this code is a problem? Using "ConsoleWrite" I can see that the "$file" variable is assigned correctly however after that the variables for "$LISTX" and "$FILE_LENGTH" are "empty" and/or "0" (which is incorrect)...thanks in advance

#Include <File.au3>
$search = FileFindFirstFile("C:\Files\FINALS\Day\*.txt")
...
$file = FileFindNextFile($search)  ;start working with each file in the folder...
$LISTX = FileReadLine($file)  ;read each line
$FILE_LENGTH = _FileCountLines($file)  ;count the # of lines of each file in the folder

I'm not sure about _FileCountLines(), but I am sure that File ReadLine() needs a file to be opened (such as with FileOpen), and FileFindNextFile() doesn't open a file, it just returns a filename.

Why not use _FileReadToArray() & _FileListToArray() as a combo?

You will see that $File is NOT returning the full path, only the file name so you have to add the path back into it or change the working directory with FileChangeDir()

#Include <File.au3>
$sPath = "C:\Files\FINALS\Day\"
FileChangeDir($sPath)
$search = FileFindFirstFile("*.txt")
...
$file = FileFindNextFile($search)  ;start working with each file in the folder...
$LISTX = FileReadLine($file)  ;read each line
$FILE_LENGTH = _FileCountLines($file)  ;count the # of lines of each file in the folder

It doesn't act that way it simply locates the file.

I normally use the FileChangeDir() method and it only changes the working directory when the script is running. On exiting the Windows working directory will be the same as it was before you ran the script unless of course you start messing with EnvSet()
