Elmer Posted September 5, 2011 Share Posted September 5, 2011 I'm trying to support my 85+ year old mother-in-law's Dell Laptop, from 1000 miles away! She often ends up turning off the Wireless card (assume via random keystrokes), and while I've provide her with illustrated instructions on how-to check the card on/off, it appears to continue to be a problem. My goal: Force the wireless card on at boot up/renew. I'm experienced with basic AUTOit scripting, but I'm not a programmer, nor a network person. I've done some playing around with IPCONFIG on my laptop, but it's still unclear to me on how to specifically turn ON the wireless card. Of course hers may be different anyway - so I really need to understand what I'm looking for/at when I visit her next month. It may be that I don't need to use AUTOit, but that's my current focus. It's great your mother-in-law is able to use a computer, I'm sure with the proper teaching she would be able to re-enable her network adapter. sleepydvdr Posted September 6, 2011 Share Posted September 6, 2011 Do a little research to find out if the wireless device can be enable/disabled by key combinations. It probably can if the device has its own software installed. If keystroke enable/disable is possible, then a simple script would be to run a script a startup, ping google (or whatever) like 20 times and if no reply, send the keystroke combo.
