Hiding/Showing Main GUI and Child GUI

7 posts in this topic

I have two GUIs, one the "main" GUI and the other defined as a child of the "main" gui using the "parent" parameter in the GUICreate for the child.

I also used the style $WS_POPUP and the extended style $WS_EX_MDICHILD in the child definition.

If I want to show and hide them together (as one, if you will) must I do that by doing a GuiSetState on each one or is there a way to make both show/hide together.

Regards,

Jim

Yeh, use GUISetState on both GUI handles.

Making the assumption that you have stored the GUI Handles in variables named $Window1 and $Window2, the following code should work:

GuiSetState(@SW_HIDE, $Window1)
GuiSetState(@SW_HIDE, $Window2)

If that doesn't work, I would be extremely surprised.

zbatev,

Since you're not the original poster, please provide some code for us to look & a better description, a simple 'doesn't work' doesn't cut the mustard here.

Thanks for the response the code is a bit too long to post, but I changed the position/line where "GuiSetState(@SW_HIDE, $Window1)" was placed and it worked... funny buy $Window1 surely was a global variable it shouldn't really matter where I placed it in the code but somehow it mattered

This is what was going on.

;=======================================
;from this(i'm sure $Window1 is global)
;=======================================
_CallTheFunctionToDoStuffAndHideUnnecessaryGUI

;
Func _CallTheFunctionToDoStuffAndHideUnnecessaryGUI
          GuiSetState(@SW_HIDE,$Window1)
         $somevariable = $somecalulations
Endfunc
;

;=======================================
;to this(i'm sure $Window1 is global)
;=======================================
GuiSetState(@SW_HIDE,$Window1)
_CallTheFunctionToDoStuffAndHideUnnecessaryGUI
;

Func _CallTheFunctionToDoStuffAndHideUnnecessaryGUI

Endfunc

Good to hear it worked for you then. But yes, where you place GUISetState does actually matter, unless you were to place it in a bunch of code which must all happen at the same time, then you could (usually) place it all in the same block of code. An exception is when you need something to happen to the GUI before you show / hide it.
