I have a GUI script and setup Case with Variables and then functions for each case.

The script runs fine with no errors until I add something into this one function (for a button on the GUI that when pushed, should simply launch a website).

Not sure if I need the entire code here or if someone can identify whether I'm just unable to accomplish this within a Func / EndFunc.

Syntax Check shows no errors in the script when this portion of the script is simply:

Func _OpenDIDButton()
EndFunc

But when I take that portion of the script, and add something inside of it, such as:

Func _OpenDIDButton()
#include <IE.au3>
_IECreate ( [$s_Url = "about:blank" [, $f_tryAttach = 0 [, $f_visible = 1 [, $f_wait = 1 [, $f_takeFocus = 1]]]]] )
EndFunc

Then I run Syntax Check and it reports:

C:\Program Files\AutoIt3\Include\WinAPIError.au3(29,1) : ERROR: syntax error

Func

^

Is that referencing line 29, character 1?

Line 29 is in this portion:

While 1
$nMsg = GUIGetMsg()
Switch $nMsg
  Case $GUI_EVENT_CLOSE
   Exit
  Case $GenChecklistButton
   _GenCheckListButton()
  Case $EmailMgrsButton
   _EmailMgrsButton()
  Case $DisableADButton
   _DisableADButton()
  Case $OpenDIDButton
   _OpenDIDButton()
EndSwitch
WEnd

#include "pastes" the file where the statement is, so what you are doing here is just no going to work. You can't declare a function inside of another (just like the error said). Why are you trying that anyway?

Just move the #include to the top of your script.

Edit:

Is that referencing line 29, character 1?

Something like that. Why don't you look at the two lines under that where it shows exactly where the problem is?

Func

^

It's not that hard if you think logically.

jgq85,

The #include directive adds the code at that point in the script - so you are putting all of IE.au3 inside your function. :oops:

Just add the #include line at the top of your script and see if that solves your problem. :D

BTW: Your _IECreate statement is wrong. You inserted the syntax description.

Try something like:

_IECreate("www.google.com")

Thanks that works. I did try moving the # include to top, but had still left the wrong IECreate function (copy/paste from the reference website).

I do something beyond a few lines of code and start acting stupid.

Thanks again and SORRY!!!

      Hi!
      I have a program that has a specific function that renames the computer.
      The entire program should be executed only on behalf of the current user, because some registry keys in the HKCU are being changed.
      The current user does not have administrator rights, so #Requireadmin is not suitable as a solution.
      The administrator accounts on the computers are different, so "RunAs" is not suitable.
      Is there a way to trigger a UAC, when running a function?
      The function code, if you need:
      Func _RenamePC($Input2) Local $Name = GUICtrlRead($Input2) $objWMIService = ObjGet("winmgmts:\root\cimv2") For $objComputer In $objWMIService.InstancesOf("Win32_ComputerSystem") $oReturn = $objComputer.rename($Name) Next EndFunc

      Hi all,
      The more projects I work on, the harder it is to find old scripts I created with certain techniques in them. I'd like to leave this here for others to get an idea from and it will be available now by keyword searching in this forum.
      This project needed an evenly distributed button grid setup on a touch screen with half decent sized buttons and spacing so the user would be less likely to press the key beside it. Here is one quick example to give anyone an idea of a way to handle it.
      #include <GUIConstants.au3> GUICreate("Button Grid", 1080, 100) ; will create a dialog box that when displayed is centered GUISetState(@SW_SHOW) ; will display an empty dialog box ;--Create and Position Controls Dim $btnActivated[1][2] ;Col 1 is button id, Col 2 is True/False used in 1 example as depressed Dim $btnArray[100][2] ;Col 1 is button id, Col 2 is True/False used in 1 example as depressed $num = 0 $btnActivated[0][0] = GUICtrlCreateButton("Activated", 0, 0, 100, 100) ;x,y,w,h $btnActivated[0][1] = True GUICtrlSetBkColor(-1,0x00ff00) GUICtrlSetColor(-1,0x005500) GUICtrlSetFont(-1,14) For $Y = 0 To 1 For $X = 0 To 7 ConsoleWrite( ($X * 100) + ($X*20) + 120 & @CRLF) If $Y=0 Then $btnArray[$num][0] = GUICtrlCreateButton($num + 1, ($X * 100) + ($X*20) + 120, 0, 100, 40) ;x,y,w,h Else $btnArray[$num][0] = GUICtrlCreateButton($num + 1, ($X * 100) + ($X*20) + 120, ($Y * 40) + $Y*20, 100, 40) ;x,y,w,h EndIf GUICtrlSetBkColor($btnArray[$num][0], 0xFFFFFF) $num += 1 Next Next ;--Set Button Names GUICtrlSetData($btnArray[0][0],"Autoit") GUICtrlSetData($btnArray[1][0],"Is") GUICtrlSetData($btnArray[2][0],"Cool") ; Run the GUI until the dialog is closed While 1 $msg = GUIGetMsg() Switch $msg Case $GUI_EVENT_CLOSE ExitLoop Case $btnActivated[0][0] $btnActivated[0][1] = NOT $btnActivated[0][1] If $btnActivated[0][1] Then GUICtrlSetBkColor($btnActivated[0][0],0x00ff00) GUICtrlSetColor($btnActivated[0][0],0x005500) GUICtrlSetData($btnActivated[0][0],"Activated") GUICtrlSetFont($btnActivated[0][0],14) Else GUICtrlSetBkColor($btnActivated[0][0],0xFF9999) GUICtrlSetColor($btnActivated[0][0],0x550000) GUICtrlSetData($btnActivated[0][0],"DeActivated") GUICtrlSetFont($btnActivated[0][0],13) EndIf Case $btnArray[0][0] If $btnActivated[0][1] Then MsgBox(0,"Notice","Btn1",1) EndIf Case $btnArray[1][0] If $btnActivated[0][1] Then MsgBox(0,"Notice","Btn2",1) EndIf Case $btnArray[2][0] If $btnActivated[0][1] Then MsgBox(0,"Notice","Btn3",1) EndIf EndSwitch WEnd I couldn't find one of my old projects that broke the button array into more columns that included the actual button name in the field. Feel free to share your own or share a more flexible version of this simple example.

      I am making some GUI with combobox for the Baudrates communications and I listed 9600, 57600, 115200.
      I wrote the code to be defaulted to 57600 like this:
      GUICtrlSetData($comboBox_opticalBaudRate, "9600|57600|115200", "57600")
      But I wanted the GUI to remember the last item the user picks so the baudrates will NOT be defaulted to 57600.
      Example, I pick 9600 as my baudrates, then I close the GUI, after opening it, it always prompt 57600 since that is what I did in my code. But I want that if I choose 9600 and close the GUI, opening it again will show 9600 now instead of 57600.
      Is there a way to do it in GUI setting?

      Thanks.

      I seem to have lost my sense of how the Global scope works.  In this example $p is Global but I can't seem to set $p in function __One and then pass that version of $p to function __Two.  I thought you could set a Global to a new value from within a function and it would affect the Global value.
      I've stared and played with this code for over an hour and I'm missing something really basic.  Help appreciated.
      #AutoIt3Wrapper_run_debug_mode=Y ; use this to debug in console window <--- LOOK Global $p = 999 MsgBox(0, "DEBUG", "MAIN - $p = '" & $p & "'") __One() Exit Func __One() ;Global $p ;this seems to make no difference - comment it out to see - how does one affect the Global in a function? MsgBox(0, "DEBUG", "Entering Func __One() - $p = '" & $p & "'") For $p = 1 to 3 MsgBox(0, "DEBUG", "IN Func __One() - $p = '" & $p & "'") __Two() Next EndFunc Func __Two() MsgBox(0, "DEBUG", "Entering __Two() $p = '" & $p & "'") EndFunc
