RegWrite what type of key should i use?

Im trying to add some registry keys for a backup program so it remembers checkbox states (ticked or not)

Obviously using RegWrite to write the keys but

Which Value am i supposed to use out of these below? what are the different types for ? it doesnt mention the types purpose in the help file.

REG_BINARY, REG_SZ, REG_MULTI_SZ, REG_EXPAND_SZ, REG_QWORD, and REG_DWORD

Im guessing REG_SZ ?

And if im creating a value which will i guess be 1 for checked 0 for not checked

Is 1 ok or should it be 0001

Is it a backup program you have written yourself? If so, the type doesn't matter, as you're telling the program what to look for. If you really want to know the differences:

Thats about as clear as mud

REG_SZ

A null-terminated string. This will be either a Unicode or an ANSI string, depending on whether you use the Unicode or ANSI functions.

No idea but im guessing a string will be just numbers...

For a Reg_SZ you can use alpha or numeric. If it is still fuzzy, I would suggest going into your own registry, under one of the apps you have installed, and look at when they use the different types. I personally use a REG_SZ unless I have a specific need for binary data.

Does the data contain environment variables? Is there multiple lines? Is it binary data? Is it a 32bit integer or 64bit integer? Or is it just a standard string?

If you can answer these then I can help with what you might need.

As i posted above its just simple number either a 1 or a 0

Ok so how do i tell what a 32bit number is? its just a 1

remember im a hobbyist not a programmer..
