What is keeping this script from working? The sample script seems way more complicated, but I can't see the obvious flaw. It runs okay, but it appears the event isn't happening. Sorry to be so thick...

When I run that script the program locks up, so it might be an issue with the _timer_settimer and my computer. Or there's a problem with the function in general.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Well I did end up trying to run this script. After adding some sleep time to the main loop, and commenting out the _Timer_SetTimer function from the doit() UDF, it still hangs when run. Guinness, you posted a reply with some code in it while I was typing this, and I might try that.

In the example they provided, AdlibRegister seems more appropriate than using the Timers UDF.

I stumbled on the adlibregister function while waiting for an answer, and it works, but there seems to be an "accuracy" problem.

I defined a one second and 1 minute adlibregister, and the one minute usually works, but it sometimes triggers a few seconds early, sometimes after only 50 seconds. I'm using Windows 7 and the latest Autoit.

I really want to synchronize with real time. Testing the system time values would work, but seems pretty brute force.

The results were:

Sec: -59 - 1.015
Min: -58.997 - 1.006

Given those results and my own experience of Adlib, I find it hard to believe that a one minute function fired after only 50 secs - can you provide the code that you used so that we can take a look? :huh:

And please remember that any timing you do in AutoIt is only as accurate as the system clock - and as an interpreted language all sorts of other delays due to system state are likely to affect the result. jchd has written some interesting posts on "accuracy" - worth a read if you can find them. :)

It's accurate enough for me. If you're looking at programming for real time systems, then AutoIt isn't your best choice. Sorry AutoIt!
