TimerInit question and proper use of code question

Recommended Posts

If I am in a loop and I want to exit the loop (free the memory) and goto another function where there is no passing of any arguments, is it better to use the call function or just name the function I want to goto?

Example:

Func _Main()
While 1
     If something then
     Call ("_SecondFunc()")    <------This
WEnd

Func _SecondFunc()
While 1
     Whatever
WEnd

Vs

Func _Main()
While 1
     If something then
     _SecondFunc()   <---------This
WEnd

Func _SecondFunc()
While 1
     Whatever
WEnd

Your second version is the method you should use in virtually all cases.

Obviusly is much faster to call a function without using the Call function.

$Flag = False
$Int = TimerInit()
$i = 0
While 1
    $i += 1
    If TimerDiff($Int) > 5000 Then ExitLoop
    ;Call("_SecondFunc")
    _SecondFunc()
WEnd
MsgBox(0,"Total Loops", $i)

Func _SecondFunc()
    $Flag = True
    Return $Flag
EndFunc   ;==>_SecondFunc

Here is my test:

Total loops in 30 seconds
1372514 ;Call
2959298 ;Function

Total loops in 15 seconds
815344 ;Call
1574040 ;Function

Total loops in 5 seconds
225531 ;Call
603675 ;Function

Explain what you mean by "free the memory", because jumping into another function won't free any memory held by the first function.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Why do you think you will free memory by jumping to another function?
