_FileReadToArray for reading variables

Hi all,

I have been using _FileReadtoArray recently and find it very useful. Is there an equivalent function such as _VariableReadtoArray for working with a variable without having to write the variable to a file first? For example, I would like to use _FileReadtoArray with a variable instead of a file like this. The variable has many lines of text in it and I would like to step through each of the lines.

_FileReadToArray($dailylog,$aRecords) Then
For $x = 1 to $aRecords[0]
    Msgbox(0,'Record:' & $x, $aRecords[$x])
Next

What is your "variable?"

Unless, as guinness suggested, you're trying to manipulate the lines of text, it looks like you have everything you need already. This works just fine:

#include <File.au3>

Local $aRecords
$dailylog = @DesktopDir & "\my.log"
_FileReadToArray($dailylog, $aRecords)

For $x = 1 To $aRecords[0]
    MsgBox(0, "Record: " & $x, $aRecords[$x])
Next

 So, can you please clarify what you're looking to accomplish?

Ok, I figured it out. I am so used to using the FileReadLine function before I found out about _FileReadtoArray that I used the FileRead function to write the txt file to the variable like this

$dailylog = FileRead("my.log")

instead of just assigning it like this

$dailylog = "my.log"

This is giving me a non-Array error. Should I be using a function other than _FileReadtoArray?

Thank you Guinness. I was enjoying using _FileReadtoArray so much that I was trying to use it wherever I could. I didn't consider using StringSplit on the carriage return, I mostly use StringSplit to parse values between commas in a line. Thank you Guinness.

You're welcome. Play around with the last parameter, you will notice if you change from 1 to 0, then the array output is different.

Interesting. I played around with StringSplit a little bit and was able to use a 3 flag as a combination of requiring the entire delimiter and disabling the return count. Very nice, thank you.

Thank you. I click "Mark Solved" on post #12 and it painted the background of the post green and moved a copy to the top, but it does not seem to be displaying the word SOLVED: in the title.

Instead it displays a green tag with the word 'Answered'.

Maybe it's my browser (FireFox 12), I checked some of my old posts and they don't show SOLVED either. I tried to re-mark this one as solved and got this message - "This is not a problem with the IPS Community Suite but rather with your SQL server. Please contact your host and copy the message shown above."

Sorry it isn't working. I will try it with a different browser.
