FOR...IN...NEXT skips items in Outlook

Recommended Posts

Looks as if this bug should be reported to Microsoft. But I wouldn't expect too much.

As there is a workaround I would just use this solution.

This modified test script shows (by displaying the EntryID of each mail item) that the mails are deleted from the last to the first one.

#include <Debug.au3>

_DebugSetup("Debug Out")
_DebugCOMError()
_DebugOut("Debug start")

Opt("TrayIconDebug", 1)

; Setup Outlook environment

$olApp = ObjCreate("Outlook.Application")
$olNameSpace = $olApp.GetNameSpace("MAPI")
Local $oArchive = $olNameSpace.PickFolder

;-----------------------------------------------------------------------
; Save number of mails to Drafts folder
;-----------------------------------------------------------------------
$timestamp = @HOUR & ":" & @MIN & ":" & @SEC
Local $oMailItem
For $i = 1 To 10
    _DebugOut("Adding mail #" & $i)
    $oMailItem = $olApp.CreateItem(0)
    $oMailItem.Subject = "Test mail (" & $timestamp & ") [" & $i & "]"
    $oMailItem.HTMLBody = "<HTML><p>test</p></HTML>"
    $oMailItem.Save()
    _DebugOut("  EntryID: " & $oMailItem.EntryID)
    Sleep(100)
Next
MsgBox(0, "Test", "Mails created!")

;-----------------------------------------------------------------------
; Delete all items using a FOR..IN..NEXT loop
;-----------------------------------------------------------------------
$oParentFld = $oMailItem.Parent
$iIteration = 0
For $oItem In $oParentFld.Items
    $iIteration += 1
    _DebugOut("Deleting mail, loop " & $iIteration)
    _DebugOut("  EntryID: " & $oItem.EntryID)
    $oItem.Delete
    Sleep(1000)
Next

_DebugOut("Loop has finished, " & $oParentFld.Items.Count & " items remaining in folder.")

It maybe just a consequence of some property of the kind of container that Outlook uses to organize mails in folders, e.g. LIFO or something. Someone fluent in MS OOP might find out a logical explanation.
