Suggestion: add full version to setup file

When you download AutoIt from https://www.autoitscript.com/site/autoit/downloads/ you get the file from: https://www.autoitscript.com/cgi-bin/getfile.pl?autoit3/autoit-v3-setup.exe

Note that the file doesn't include the full version number (i.e. v3.3.14), as it happens here: https://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/files/archive/autoit/

Recently, I updated to the new version v3.3.14, and deleted the old v3.3.12, but I realized that there are lots of changes, so I must update my scripts too. But when I tried to download the previous version, it was difficult because all links from this web and others (Softonic, Cnet, Softpedia) go to the same destination: autoit-v3-setup.exe

Finally, I found the archive page. BTW there's no link on the downloads page to the old versions.

Which download page? The one you linked to does have it. The link says "Previous Versions".

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

He wants the version of AutoIt to be part of the filename of the installer (like the installers from the archive) instead of the generic autoit-v3-setup.exe.

I can agree with that, but it seems he was more troubled because he couldn't find the old versions (even though the link is there if you look for it)

Ahhhh, I get it now, the full version NUMBER in the file name. I never would have gotten that from what was written.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Ok, I will re-phrase what I'm saying.

If you visit a download site (i.e. CNET) http://download.cnet.com/windows/developer-tools/most-popular/3101-2026_4-0.html?licenseType=Free most of the software setup files include the full version. They aren't called simply "setup.exe" or "install.exe". (Ouch!) They are called correctly like "firefox setup 40.0.2.exe".

If you call all versions "autoit-v3-setup.exe" people will overwrite old versions, or simply don't know what version the file is.

Yes, I know nobody will listen, but I'm just suggesting a software design good practice.

We are listening, but without taking on the version number to the setup file, you gurantee it to be a perma link. If you want to know the version number, then look at the properties dialog.

I believe that not having the version number in the file name makes perfect sense, because no matter what version is the current release version, you never have to change the link you use to get the most current version of the software. If you want older versions, there's always the previous versions link you can follow and link to.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.
