Remove extension from the FileName.example

Currently I am using the Functions kindly provided at http://www.autoitscript.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=95580&view=findpost&p=687288, but they only accept a FullPath e.g. "C:\Program Files\AutoIt3\AutoIt3.chm"

So is there a simply approach without using a While...WEnd loop and StringTrimRight() + StringRight() to find the following below with only specifing the FileName e.g. _GetFileNameExExt("AutoIt3.chm")

1. Find the Extension e.g. .chm And/Or chm

2. Find the FileName (minus the extension) e.g. AutoIt3

Have a look at _PathSplit in the File management section of the UDFs in the helpfile.

OK, thanks for that. I knew of _PathSplit() but I just thought it required a FullPath, so I will look at the inner workings of the function and try and work it out. Cheers!

I was also hoping it could be done with StringRegExp()?

I came up with this...used _PathSplit() as a basis, so thanks!

Dont overcomplicate things if not neccessary, i use these two fast and simple oneliner functions to remove extension:

Func RemoveExt($Input)
    Local $ExtArray = StringSplit($Input, ".")
    Return StringReplace($Input, "." & $ExtArray[$ExtArray[0]], "", -1)
EndFunc

Func RemoveExtRegExp($Input)
    Return StringRegExpReplace($Input, "\.[^.]*$", "")
EndFunc

Local $ExtArray = StringSplit($Input, ".") - forming array with substrings separated by dot, we need last one, since it obviosly contains extension

Return StringReplace($Input, "." & $ExtArray[$ExtArray[0]], "", -1) - replacing part of input string by empty string, and we looking for last index of array that has extension and combing it with dot, since we need to remove it too and dont want accidentally remove part of filename that may patch extension (something like executor.exe, and to make sure its in end of name we using -1 to replace only 1st match starting from right sideend

. - this means that we looking for DOT PERIOD to begin with

[^.]* - this means that after DOD there should be any number of symbols but without ANY DOTs

$ - end of string

Also to get filename from full path, before cleaning it of extension, i use almost identical simple function:

Func GetFileName($Input)
    Local $PathArray = StringSplit($Input, "\/")
    Return $PathArray[$PathArray[0]]
EndFunc

Local $PathArray = StringSplit($Input, "/") - we forming temp local array of substings, and yet again obviosly name would be in last one (except for case if path has no filename, but you probably already ensured that you passed path which contains filename) after final or / and thats the only thing we need

Return $PathArray[$PathArray[0]] - returning last indexed substring from array which contains our filename

Also this works flawlesly both with relative and absolute pathes

To get filename without extension from complete path i use simple chain like this

 

$Input = C:\\./blah blah/something.new\file.ext
$Output = RemoveExt(GetFileName($Input))
