Interesting question about working with arrays.

Hello again everyone.

I have found myself in yet another tricky spot... this time, it is with arrays. I have attempted to do something that I thought would be quite simple, and would work quite well. Take a look at the part of the script shown and take a guess at what you think I am trying to do. If you cant guess, just look at the spoiler.

Local $Char                            = Chr(36)&"ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890_"
Local $Variablesqty                    = 0
Local $VariableID                   = 1

$VariableID=1
$VariableDialoge = GUICtrlCreateListView("Variable|Type|Value", 2, 2, @DesktopWidth - 4, $WindowHeight - 102, 0x0200)

Do
        GUICtrlCreateListViewItem($Variables[$Variablesqty], $VariableDialoge)
        $VariableID=$VariableID+1
        $Variablesqty=$Variablesqty-1
    Until $Variablesqty=0

What I want to do is this;

Detect the amount of variables in a script (Let's say for arguments sake that there are 3 variables, as shown here;

$Var1
$Var2
$Var3

I want it to detect that there are 3 variables in this script (it already has the script) and then I want it to place a list item into the list with the variables name.

Does anybody know how I can do this?

An easy way as far as I am concerned would be to get it to loop X times, where X is the number of variables in the script (shown bu $Variables[0]), and each time it runs through the loop, it gets the next variable and lists it - so the first time, it gets the value of $Variables[1] and the second time it gets the value of $Variables[2] and the third time, $Variables[3]. Remember though, that there could be no variables in a script, there could be 100 cariables in a script, there could be thousands, and therefore I cannot simply get the values from the array 3 times and be done.

Look for Ubound in the helpfile, it returns the size (of a dimension) of an array.

Thanks for your suggestion to use Ubound, smartee, but I have read the Wiki entry and it has demonstrated a great way to do this, and so that is how I will do it. I fear now... that it isnt getting the variables any more... not to worry... I will figure that one out.

Also perhaps have a look at _GUICtrlListView_ UDF Functions to ease the process of adding to a ListView.
