Registry Key Exists

Recommended Posts

OK I have checked the forums and read up on some topics and received VERY good info on the topic...HOWEVER I am still having an issue.

I writing an Uninstaller script and I am looking for a way to dependably check the registry [HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\] for a specific program key and if it exists remove it.

For example to remove AdobeReaderX I have been using this.

RegRead($RegPath & $AdobeX,"")

If @Error < 1 Then RunWait(**Run Uninstaller**)

I soon discovered that while this works great if the product is installed, it FAILS horribly if the product is not there.

After I did some additional testing it seems to me that the @error flag resets itself each time it moves on to a new line of code.

I even tried using a variable to store the @error value immediately after running the RegRead, but it still resets to 0.

Everything I found in the forums was at least 3 years old, and I know a lot can change in 3 years. So I am hoping that if I bring this up again someone out there might know of a better way to do this.

Thanks for your help.

Assign a variable to the RegRead statement and see what it contains after trying to read the key. RegRead returns an empty string ("") if the key doesn't exist, and will return the contents of the key if it does.

$Tempvariable = RegRead($RegPath & $AdobeX,"")
$Error = @error
If $TempVariable <> "" Then
    RunWait(**Run Uninstaller**)
    MsgBox(0, "Error", "Problem reading the key " & $RegPath & $AdobeX & @CRLF & "Error message is: " & $Error)
