Unable to remove title bar of cmd.exe in Windows XP

7 posts in this topic

The following piece of code works fine in Windows 7. It removes the title bar of both apps like Notepad and CMD.exe

But, it doesn't work in Windows XP (i am using SP3) on CMD.exe. It does successfully remove the title bar of Notepad in Win XP but just not CMD.exe in Win XP.

I am stumped and desparately trying to get this working on the command window in Win XP.

Any help will be highly appreciated

#include <WindowsConstants.au3>

#Include <WinAPI.au3>

;Global $AppTitle = "Notepad" ;; THIS WORKS JUST FINE

Global $AppTitle = "cmd" ;; THIS DOESNT WORK!!

Opt ("WinTitleMatchMode", 2)

$hWnd = WinGetHandle($AppTitle)

Local Const $SWP_NOMOVE = 0x2, $SWP_NOSIZE = 0x1, $SWP_SHOWWINDOW = 0x40, $SWP_NOZORDER = 0x4

Local Const $GWL_STYLE = -16, $GWL_EXSTYLE = -20

Local $iFlags = BitOR($SWP_SHOWWINDOW, $SWP_NOSIZE, $SWP_NOMOVE)

$Style = $WS_POPUP

$ExStyle = 0

DllCall("User32.dll", "int", "SetWindowLong", "hwnd", $hWnd, "int", $GWL_STYLE, "int", $Style)

DllCall("User32.dll", "int", "SetWindowLong", "hwnd", $hWnd, "int", $GWL_EXSTYLE, "int", $ExStyle)

DllCall("User32.dll", "int", "SetWindowPos", "hwnd", $hWnd, "hwnd", 0, "int", 0, "int", 0, "int", 0, "int", 0, "int", $iFlags)

What about this (only an idea)

#include <Constants.au3>
#include <WinAPI.au3>
#include <WindowsConstants.au3>

Run("notepad.exe")
Local $hWnd = WinWait("[CLASS:Notepad]")
WinMove($hWnd, "", 0, 0, @DesktopWidth, @DesktopHeight)
_WinAPI_SetWindowLong($hWnd, $GWL_STYLE, $WS_POPUPWINDOW)
_WinAPI_SetWindowLong($hWnd, $GWL_EXSTYLE, 0)

For CMD window try getting the Style using GetWindowLong, then XORing with WS_CAPTION. Use the result with SetWindowLong.

I tried with the following lines of code. Again works fine with Notepad but not with the CMD window in Windows XP

;For CMD window try getting the Style using GetWindowLong, then XORing with WS_CAPTION. Use the result with SetWindowLong.

$Style = _WinAPI_GetWindowLong($hWnd, $GWL_STYLE) ;Capture Existing Style

_WinAPI_SetWindowLong($hWnd, $GWL_STYLE, BitXOR($Style, $WS_CAPTION)) ;REMOVE $WS_CAPTION

Not sure what is it about the command window that it just does not work in XP

All I can suggest is get the styles and extended styles default values from an XP command prompt. Look up each bit value on MSDN and see what goes together. I know XP is different from W7 in that you can hit Alt-Enter to toggle full screen mode in XP. W7 won't allow it.

I searched stuff like Toggle ws_caption XP but I got nothing useful.
