A nice update to this would be to start the updated executable with any command lines originally passed to the application. 

 

Pretty simple to do, but thought I would suggest my idea.

I made my own update routine and had nearly the same outcome, but yours is more flexible.

One thing to mention though.

In your UDF you have:

The whole TIMER thing could be exchanged by the cmd command TIMEOUT.

If you want the user having the ability to cancel the operation at this point only use /T timeoutInSeconds as parameter. If the user should not be able to cancel the operation add the parameter /nobreak at the end:

Hi newbie question, I'm running autoit v3.3.10.2.  I'm getting 0.0.0.0 when I use MsgBox(0,"",FileGetVersion(@ScriptFullPath)) in my script.  What am I missing?

It has to be compiled for that to work. Though I don't see how your issue and my UDF relate?

Hello, Hopefully I am not necroing anything to old...

But I have ran into an issue with the self update batch file running with the correct privileges. I have added #RequireAdmin to both the main program and the UDF you created but that does not help. 

I changed the @SW_HIDE to @SW_SHOW...I can see the command prompt launching and getting stuck.

If I grabbed the syntax from the batch and paste it into a command prompt I can see the error..

C:UsersUser>TASKKILL /F /FI "IMAGENAME EQ Program.exe"
ERROR: The process with PID 9212 could not be terminated.
Reason: Access is denied.
 
Any Idea how to get the program called within the UDF to run as an elevated command prompt? 
Return Run($sTempFileName, 'C:SECTOOL', @SW_SHOW)
 
I do not want to hard code any username and passwords into the program, I would rather have it launch with the correct permissions some sort of way...

Perhaps something is stopping the process from being terminated. It doesn't appear as though it's the code I have posted.

Hi guinness,

just an idea for another option. Use copy instead of move in the batch file. If you've got many exe files which all should be able to update themselves from the same location then the update-file shouldn't be moved/deleted.
