Help on StringRegExp()

21 posts in this topic

Hi All,

i have a string which contains (HP EliteBook 1234) i want to read that numeric values alone. if i am not wrong we can use stringregexp to read that number values. but i am failing to use the exact expression. can some one help me?

Note:

here i have given example string which have the numeric value in the end. but there were situations where the numeric values will come in the middle.

Thank you,Regards,K.Syed Ibrahim.

StringRegExp returns an array of values (in case there is more than one match). If there's only one possible match, then you would need to check $array[0].

How about StringRegExpReplace?

ConsoleWrite(StringRegExpReplace('HP EliteBook 1234', '[^0-9]', '') & @CRLF)

For some reason, using "*" doesn't return anything. I guess since it can match zero instances, it returns nothing. Use a + instead.

$array = StringRegExp("HP EliteBook 1234", "[0-9]+", 1)
MsgBox(0, "Answer", $array[0])

Local $aArray = StringRegExp("HP EliteBook 1234", "[0-9]+", 3)
If Not @error Then
    MsgBox(0, "Answer", $aArray[0])
EndIf

See above though as I did it differently.

i tested in couple of available models and some models returns the value like 'HP EliteBook 1234P" and some machine returns as "'HP compaq DC1234". in this case i also need to read the characters next to numbers or before. is that possible? how can we do that ?

Thank you,Regards,K.Syed Ibrahim.

How about using StringSplit with spaces as delimiters and then grabbing the last array element?

Whenever someone says "pls" because it's shorter than "please", I say "no" because it's shorter than "yes".

You could use

$Text = StringMid('HP EliteBook 1234P', StringInStr('HP EliteBook 1234P', " ", 0, -1) + 1) ; <<<< Returns everything after the last space character

Don't be sorry; you did just what was asked. It's just that after you shot your arrow, they moved the target.

Actually, you could have still used a regex:

$array = StringRegExp("HP EliteBook 1234P", "[a-zA-Z]*[0-9]+[a-zA-Z]*", 1)
MsgBox(0, "Answer", $array[0])

Try this:

$string1 = "HP EliteBook 1234P"
$aRegEx = StringRegExp($string1, "d+w+", 3)
MsgBox(0, "Test", $string1 & " -> " & $aRegEx[0])

$string2 = "HP 1234P EliteBook"
$aRegEx = StringRegExp($string2, "d+w+", 3)
MsgBox(0, "Test", $string2 & " -> " & $aRegEx[0])

$string3 = "HP 1234P EliteBook"
$sRegEx = StringRegExpReplace($string3, "(.*)s(d+w+)(.*)",  "$2")
MsgBox(0, "Test", $string3 & " -> " & $sRegEx)

$string4 = "HP EliteBook 1234P"
$sRegEx = StringRegExpReplace($string4, "(.*)s(d+w+)(.*)",  "$2")
MsgBox(0, "Test", $string4 & " -> " & $sRegEx)

$string5 = "HP EliteBook 1234"
$sRegEx = StringRegExpReplace($string5, "(.*)s(d+w+)(.*)",  "$2")
MsgBox(0, "Test", $string5 & " -> " & $sRegEx)

If you look at StringRegExp you'll notice that 3 means 'return an array of global matches' and the $2 or 2 is for StringRegExpReplace which means 'display the 2nd group' or in this example it's the 2nd (.*). Though I wouldn't call myself a SRE guru.

Doesn't work for models such as Compaq CQ62z. Best bet would be grabbing the last alphanumeric character group of the string.
