jchd
Yeah I'm well aware they use the very same functions but for ease of use, simplicity and robustness I [too] often urge newcomers to switch to higher-level functions. Explicit calls to lower-level functions should only be used with good reasons and by experienced people who can swim alone, just like Kafu among others. KaFu
That's the beauty of the UDFs, most don't have to understand how they work, just that they do.Fully acknowledged , for standard purposes I also prefer to use the default functions, because I consider them much safer than my own stripped down code and of course the are much easier to implement. But when you have specials tasks to perform, you're looking at every millisecond and you know all possible combinations, then I start to strip the standard UDF functions down.Explicit calls to lower-level functions should only be used with good reasons and by experienced people who can swim alone, just like Kafu among others. , I'm still learning it the hard way , my approach is more like making enough mistakes might lead to a working solution ... guinness
Oh no, my comment wasn't aimed at you at all KaFu. -_0 I think most of us who eventually spread our wings from the standard includes, end up modifying the in one way or another. jchd
Even if one single table can do it, it still isn't a good SQLish design.@Dictator,That would almost imply parametrizing schema names (table names) which SQL resists. Compare to an address book, each person having variable entries (mobile, mobile pro, mail, mail pro, you name it). You certainly wouldn't make every person into a table by his/her name, would you? KaFu
Looking forward to SQLite4 , but truth to be told, the limiting factor for SMF is now the HDD speed and not SQLite anymore, see attached screenshot. For reference I always perform a duplicate search on my picture directory, the screenshot on the left is the first run, on the right a second run (where the OS has cached file info). jchd
In SMF case that's true and it's due to the need to read file contents for hashing. Bundle SMF with a good SSD RAID and you have a nice business! Note that even if that was the bottleneck, don't hold your breath. We need you around live. Sorry for digressing...
