Is the integrated sort within the recursive FLTA migrating to production worthwhile?

In each case the function should have a specific set of parameters. Universal should be the most simple.
The callback function allows you to stop the search after receiving a certain number of files or the first available with a certain property. In some cases, a sensitivity to the register. In some cases, the need to check the date. You can not create a function that takes into account everything, because in some cases it will be slow. If the call is made in the script, many options do not require verification, and if the input is produced in the GUI, you need to check the validity of the parameters. And it is a balance between speed and versatility.
Four years ago, I used the function of NIKZZZZ and asked him to put its code on the official forum.

I totally agree with your point about duplicating code, I think having separate functions and variables scattered across the includes is a logistical nightmare, but I respect those who have worked/work on AutoIt and thus won't change at this present time without discussing with them first. I also don't agree that including Array.au3 for the sake of 3/4 functions is "good practice" and therefore I'm looking at alternative approaches. If you don't think this is the case then please say so.

Anyway, I would just like to remind people that we are trying to move forward and thus some kinks will need to be ironed out, this is why betas are released every so often. I would also like to point out what happened with the discussion about the speed decrease in COM between trancexx and Valik. User feedback is important, but you have to trust that the choices we make are for the greater good.

I just want to make sure I understand what's going on.

There is a FLTA that is headed for production. 

However, as good as the FLTA may be it has some sort code. 

The place I need clarification is this: does the FLTA call the sort code or is the sort code lifted from an existing routine and dropped in cargo plane style in the middle of the FLTA?

No, FLTA hasn't been touched, it's about FLTAR(ec) that is a modified version of Melba23's RecFileListToArray UDF.

Look at the beta for what it looks like now! Doesn't necessarily mean that's what it will be in future versions of AutoIt.

What's wrong with including Array.au3? As I see it, the idea of having a separate sort function allows you to remove the error checks - is that it? I imagine there might be a core set of functions being called frequently from different UDfs where additional error checking is an unnecessary hinderance.

At the end of the day I'm not comfortable with the idea of code without error checking, but I might sometimes remove error checks myself. I think the code maintainance argument is of high significance and advanced users who want to remove error checks can do so, if they wish. Should the sort function be included, I don't know. That's entirely up to the developers.

@jaberwocky6669 - It's about duplicating the sort function to reduce the number of includes needed for the new recursive FLTA which M23 has worked so hard on. The question is whether this is adding unecessary bloat to AutoIt. There appears to be a trade off either way. The question is whether the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.

Anyway, I would just like to remind people that we are trying to move forward and thus some kinks will need to be ironed out, this is why betas are released every so often. I would also like to point out what happened with the discussion about the speed decrease in COM between trancexx and Valik. User feedback is important, but you have to trust that the choices we make are for the greater good.

I don't get that? Could you remind me about what happened with COM speed and how discussion between me and Valik is relevant here?

If I don't get your parallel being included in it, very likely many others won't too.

What's with the challenges?  And continual expressed lack of understanding of what's written in clear English?

I've written a half-dozen versions of a recursive FLTA. The last, and the first example I'm aware of to implement such things as both an ExcludeList and an ExcludeFolderList, is still one of the fastest around:

This routine is built on the same basic engine, so why would I want it replaced?

I expressed earlier the many refinements that have taken place here, and not in other dormant versions, making this the superior candidate.

I have no desire to spend an hour chopping the sort out of this function and then presenting it as something that I've "fixed".

I don't understand the misdirection, the (apparent) misinterpretation.

Should FileRead() have a built-in spell checker?

Would it be a good idea to add includes, a dozen helper functions, duplicated code, and increase the module size of _FTP_ListToArray() by 600% in order to give it built-in sort functionality?

Someone answer this... after all, it's the title of this thread... 

What are the advantages, considering the overhead incurred, that justify making the recursive FLTA the first UDF function to include a built-in sort?
