Strip Character from String Not Working

When you call the ConsoleWrite, you are passing in the @error, which is set by FileGetVersion.

As soon as the ConsoleWrite is done, IT sets the @error=0.

So unless you set the @error to a variable, it will be overwritten by the ConsoleWrite.

|3ill,

There is nothing wrong with doing that as the @error isn't reset until after the ConsoleWrite().

Local $sReturn = MyError("@AutoItExe") ; intentionally wrong to test @error
ConsoleWrite("@error =  " & @error & @CRLF)
; <<<< @error reset now.
ConsoleWrite("@error =  " & @error & @CRLF) ; It should be set to 0.

Func MyError($sString)
    Return SetError(1000, 0, $sString)
EndFunc   ;==>MyError

Interesting, I learned how the @error gets reset now. I never used it because it was unclear to me when this flag is actually reset. Does sending output to consolewrite always clear @error for future reference?

Thanks for the detailed explanations everyone. This forum is great!

Calling any function resets @error unless set in the function.

Thanks guiness, is there any way to reset @error without a function or can you provide an example of the simplest possible function that I could use to reset @error. I suppose that and If then statement is not a function, correct.

Thanks!

Not needed, but this would reset it (but if it resets on any function call, this is redundant):

SetError(0)
DirGetSize("doesnt exist")
ConsoleWrite(@error & @CRLF)
SetError(5)
ConsoleWrite(@error & @CRLF)
SetError(0)
ConsoleWrite(@error & @CRLF)

output:

1

5

0

helpfile remarks:

Remarks

When entering a function @error is set to 0. Unless SetError() is called, then @error will remain 0 after the function has ended. This means that in order for @error to be set after a function, it must be explicitly set. This also means you may need to backup the status of @error in a variable if you are testing it in a While-WEnd loop.
The extended parameter is optional. It is only provided as a way to set both @error and @extended at the same time. If only @extended needs set, then it is recommended to use the SetExtended() function instead.

Thanks and apologies for not seeing it blatantly in the help file. Thats good to know and I will be experimenting with that on my next script since it is no doubt useful.

I am nearing the end of this script however I have one last question. My script will check a file version to see if it exists, if its greater than a version it wont do anything but if less than and it will execute a setup file. The setup requires #RequireAdmin in the script to run properly but I only want to call this if setup needs to be run. Is this possible since it always seems to place this at the top of the script regardless of where I originally place it in the script?

EDIT: I decided to just call another compiled script which runs the setup file instead of trying to do everything with one file. Simple enough!

Your error check is in the wrong place, it will never equal 1.

So I finally figured out what you guys were trying to tell me... so here it is for those of you that think like I do and didint understand the explanations of the learned :graduated:

$ver = FileGetVersion("C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\OFFICE14\something.dll")
; above FileGetVersion fed an intentionally incorrect argument to produce an error

ConsoleWrite("$ver =  " & $ver & @CRLF) ; this ConsolWrite is in the way of the error check below
;Thus the remark "Good luck getting ConsoleWrite to return an error :-)
;...which is BTW now funny that I get it

;Comment out Move or remove the Consolewrite above and it works...

If Not @error = 1 Then
    MsgBox(0, "", $ver)
Else
    MsgBox(0, "", "Say this.")
EndIf

Thanks again for your time and patience !
