You rename the computer and then join it to the domain.
I think you could do it all in one go by setting the computer name in _AD_JoinDomain.

$sNewname       - Optional: Name to change the computer to after joining to the domain.

Thanks Water - however the part that was causing me issue was that even though the script executed successfully

 

The computer isn't actually joined to the domain when I reboot

It's still part of the workgroup it was on before I ran the script

Does it work when you do not rename the computer before joining?

When I try the script without renaming the PC first - just using the _AD_JoinDomain

 

I get 

 

Return code '7' from Active Directory

 

Thats it cant rename the computer right ?

_AD_ErrorNotify(2)

at the top of your script to get more detailed error information.

In the AD Join - the last parameter

It renames the actual computer name or just renames the computer in AD ?

The UDF code shows me that it only renames the computer in AD.
But I can't test as I only have read access to our AD :-)
