question about a C program to capture animated screen areas to animated GIFs

Hi
here there is a nice and simple software to catch a (moving) screen area and save it to an animated GIF. Also the C source is provided and available.

In my opinion, a little flaw is that when you start recording, you are prompted to specify the location to save the GIF file, and only after you specify the destination, the recording will starts.
In this way, you can not specify the exact start time of the recording.
For example, if you want to capture an area of ​​a movie starting at an exact time, you can not, because when you click on "rec", instead of starting the record, you are asked for the destination file name.

well, in short, I post this here to know if it should an easy or hard work, for someone that knows how to program in C, to modify and compile the source code so that the prompt of the destination file, could be asked prior to the clicking of the "start recording" button

Well you'd write it to a temporary file and then copy it.

It's a Visual Studio 6 project, I'm converting it and I'll have a look.

Edit: They are using some funny stuff I don't know about for the file dialog (it's windows and OSX)

GifCam is better having used LiceCap before.

I tried GifCam and works well. Thanks
It ask you for the saving file name, as it should be, right after I press stop recording and not before.

(it was not easy to get it because "avast" prevents me from entering their official web site http://www.bahraniapps.com/ ...??

 anyway found elsewhere (in a snapshot of their site on the waybackmachine )

If you download the Install executable licecap124-install.exe (save and rename it from.exe to .zip) and then you open it with a decompressor instead of running it, you will find inside a folder named "source".

Tried that, says there are no archives found (winrar)

 

just rename it .zip and then doubleclick it
