Wrong button name?

4 posts in this topic

Hi there,

I have a strange problem.

I have code, and I declare a label: $label3

I do some code, and at the end I  remove the label.

After that I declare a Button: $Okbutton2

Somehow $okbutton2 becomes $label3: if I update or delete $label3 afterwards, the button is changed!

How is that possible?

local $label3 = GUICtrlCreateLabel($Line2, 10, 60, 230, 80)
if IsDeclared("label3") then GUICtrlDelete($label3)
if IsDeclared("ProgressBar") then GUICtrlDelete($ProgressBar)
Opt("GUICoordMode", 1)
GUICtrlSetFont($label, 10, 400, "", $font)
GUICtrlSetPos($label, 10, 10,230,60)
Local $okbutton2 = GUICtrlCreateButton(createmessage("OK"), 10, 70, 30, 20)
Local $CancelButton = GUICtrlCreateButton(createmessage("Cancel"), 45, 70, 70, 20)
if IsDeclared("label3") then GUICtrlDelete($label3)
GUICtrlSetOnEvent($okbutton, "OK")
GUICtrlSetOnEvent($CancelButton, "Cancel")

tsjippy,

The ControlIDs used to identify native AutoIt controls are actually the indices of an internal array that AutoIt uses to keep track of them. They are normally allocated sequentially, but deleting a control leaves a empty element in this array and AutoIt fills this first to save space. That is what is happening here - once you have deleted the $label3 control, that ControlID number is reallocated to the next control created ($okbutton2). :)

The solution is not to use any code that references $label3 after the label is destroyed - or to create (and if necessary hide) all the controls required before you start deleting any of them so that they all have unique ControlIDs. ;)

Could you please post a script that we can run and that shows the problem you describe?

At the moment I see nothing wrong with your code.
