Check state of word checkbox

Recommended Posts

albertmaathuis

Hi There,

I'm busy automating a proces in Word. the problem is that some of our users don't have the same checkboxes on or off in their environment.

I'm using word 2010 and word 2013.

When a word document is saved as a PDF document, sometimes the checkbox : "open file after publishing" is checked (so the PDF opens in Adobe)

Does anyone know a way how to read the state of a checkbox in a word window?

This works for me in Word 2013:

$isChecked = ControlCommand("[CLASS:#32770]", "", "[CLASS:Button; INSTANCE:4]", "IsChecked"))

Don't know if the window class and checkbox control class are always the same, you'll have to check that for yourself.
Apart from that, there's a great Word UDF around. Look at the _Word* functions. _Word_DocSaveAs and _Word_Export seem interesting. I have never used it myself because I have a schijthekel aan MS Office, but it may be much less of a hassle using that precooked functionality for this automation project?

That was the reason for asking. It is much better and reliable to use the Word UDF and automate Word via COM than automating the GUI (as long as the methods and properties are exposed for COM).

If that does not work you can also reset all user word's profil like this:

Reg delet : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\<Your office version>\Word\Data

after a new run of word it will make it again ... yeah it s a bit brutal but this gonna work xD

if you are able to code complicated reg thing you can also save this key then delet it and then restore the key... that whould be also a solution.

Thanks for the answers.

I think I have a old word.au3 (there is no _Word_Export function). The _Word_DocSaveAs doesn't seem to have the option to save as PDF.
@water: can you tell me please where i can find the latest version?

@SadBunny: I tried to check the button with this command, but it doesn't seem to work.

$isChecked=ControlCommand("[CLASS:#32770]", "", "[CLASS:Button; INSTANCE:1]", "Check","")

also if the button is checked, the $isChecked=0 if I use:

$isChecked=ControlCommand("[CLASS:#32770]", "", "[CLASS:Button; INSTANCE:1]", "IsChecked","")

The Word UDF comes with AutoIt. If you run 3.3.12.0 then you have the latest version of the UDF.

      Hello,

for some script I need to investigate the states checked/unchecked, hidden/shown, enabled/disabled to several checkbox controls.

Any suggestions to this script to retrieve the information in a better way?

      Hello,
I am struggling in merging GUITreeViewEx, Shelltristate and enhancing to handle a third state that means : some items under are selected.
I have difficulties handling expand order and key Space (especially when node is collapsed).
Here the zip with UDF and and example.

The problem I might need some advice to handle :
1- When load Treeview, have a correct settings of the checkbox for a tristate tree
2 - Handle keyboard used for walking in tree
Chicken is checked and Steak is unchecked
When walking with arrow to Meat, it gets unchecked
3 - When node is collapsed and checked thru keyboard (space)
the middle state is possible which should not
Here is joined an animated gif showing the 3 problems

      Thanks for your advices

      Hello

Is there anyway to store word documents in Autoit GUI? For example I have a instruction sheet that I want to bundle up with the exe.

So a user simply clicks the icon and the stored document will launch (Something like how you can add objects like excel sheets in word documents )

(I Know we can launch word files from script directory)

      Hello,
I have used this forum to get help many times. I thought it was time to (hopefully) help others.
I created a script that reads a text file with a list of videos, displays the videos in a GUI with checkboxes next to the names, and displays the selected videos. This will become a part of a larger script I am creating to test a video player. The tough part for me was creating the GUI and Dynamic list of videos. I had a lot of trouble finding samples to help me, but finally found one written by Melba23. The link is in the code, so he gets credit for helping! I also have not used arrays much and they are very picky about looping through the arrays without getting the dreaded error " Array variable has incorrect number of subscripts or subscript dimension range exceeded." However diligence paid off!
To run this code, take the video names commented below and create a videos.txt file in your script execution directory. You can put however many video names in this list. Thus the dynamic features of the code.
      Cheers!
      Jibberish
      #include <MsgBoxConstants.au3> #include <StringConstants.au3> #include <array.au3> #include <File.au3> #include <GUIConstantsEx.au3> Local $sMediaFile = @ScriptDir & "\videos.txt" ;~ Videos in videos.txt are: ;~ bbb_1080_60s.mp4 ;~ bbb_1080_60s_1.mp4 ;~ bbb_1080_60s_2.mp4 ;~ tos_4K_60s_HEVC.mp4 ;~ tos_4K_60s_HEVC_1.mp4 ;~ tos_4K_60s_HEVC_2.mp4 ;~ ;~ Additional videos can be added to this list.       I've failed to find an example of _Word_DocFindReplace which searches for formatted text (I'm looking for stand alone paragraph marks that are formatted other than normal i.e. Bold Italic, Underlined).
The reason being that when converting a Word document to html one of the main problems in the results is that a stand alone paragraph mark is converted to an html space that retains the formatting ...> <... thus showing up as a underline _ in a browser when it should be blank. I've played around with the script and got it to at least un-bold the first paragraph mark regardless if it was bold or not but I'd like to clear all formatting from any stand alone paragraph marks in the whole document. Below is what I've done so far (not much more than in the help file I'm afraid) . Way down at the bottom of the _Word_DocFindReplace help text is this parameter but without any examples to be found :
      $bFormat   [optional] True to have the find operation locate formatting in addition to or instead of the find text (default = False) #include <MsgBoxConstants.au3> #include <Word.au3> $processing = @MyDocumentsDir & '\AutoIt_code\getter\processing\' Global $oWord = _Word_Create() Global $sTestfile = $processing & "Testing.docx" ConsoleWrite($sTestfile & @CRLF) Global $oDoc = _Word_DocOpen($oWord, $sTestfile) If @error Then Exit MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "ERROR", "Error opening file = '" & $sTestfile & "'" & @CRLF & "@error = " & @error & ", @extended = " & @extended) $oRangeFound = _Word_DocFind($oDoc, "^p", Default, Default) If @error Then Exit MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "Word UDF: _Word_DocFind Example", _ "Error locating paragraph control character in the document." & @CRLF & "@error = " & @error & ", @extended = " & @extended) $oRangeFound.Bold = False If @error Then Exit MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "Word UDF: _Word_DocFind Example", _ "Error inserting text after the paragraph control character in the document." & @CRLF & "@error = " & @error & _ ", @extended = " & @extended) MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "Word UDF: _Word_DocFind Example", "Paragraph control character successfully replaced." & @CRLF & _ "Text inserted in paragraph 2.")
