Meh. I dislike the limitation entirely but it's a big change to remove it. I know there are recursion constants in the source, we should figure out if those are wrong and if so adjust them and document the new values.

Its late and I'm tired so the chances are that I'm totally wrong here but in the help file in:

Language reference - datatypes

..."When evaluated, strings can have Env variables or Var variables substitution according to Opt() function definition."

Clicking on Opt(),links to "ExpandEnvStrings" under "AutoItSetOption"

Should the "Opt()" link-name above be changed to AutoItSetOption() ?

No, Opt and AutoItSetOption are entirely the same but Opt is used more than the other.

I thinke he's talking about when you click on Opt in Scite which will jump to ExpandEnvStrings bookmark instead of the top of the page.

That of course has nothing to do with the help file.

The help file TOC links are correct as far as I can tell.

Thank you for clearing that up for me, for some reason I though that I recalled reading some time back that Opt() is obsolete and is to be replaced with AutoItSetOption() therefore I questioned whether occurences of it should be renamed.to AutoItSetOption().

You are right, in the helpfile, the Opt() link from where I stated in my OP, does indeed jump to the ExpandEnvStrings bookmark, instead of the top of the page as one would expect. (i.e. The help file TOC links are correct)

My only reason for posting was because I thought that Opt() was obsolete.

Just to point out that I wouldn't use the Opt value "ExpandEnvString" but rather _WinAPI_ExpandEnvironmentStrings to expand environment variables in a string. I rarely use the Opt function & when I have done it's because of the TrayMenuMode options.

Thank you for that extra bit of information, I will store it for future reference.

As a matter of fact I was Not in need of the use of any of that, as I just stumbled across the link from Opt() by accident as I was looking for something else and as I say I seemed to recall that Opt() was to be replaced by AutoItSetOption() and thought that I should just mention that, if it really was obsolete then the help file wording regarding it would need to be amended.

Sets the attributes of one or more files/directories

DirRemove

Some file attributes can make the deletion impossible, therefore if this is the case look at FileSetAttrib to change the attributes of a directory.

It's available in V3.3.8.1 and the latest beta too, so no idea what version of AutoIt you're using.

Something really weird is happening here, I had downloaded the latest stable version (v.3.3.8.1)when it became available and also had D/L v.3.3.9.4.Beta and installed it too.

Now, when I went to double check what ver for you, guess what? it appears that I'm running v.3.3.6.1 and there is no sign of any Beta version on my PC.

Now I know some strange things have been happening with my PC lately, in fact I was planning on doing a complete clean O/S install in the next week or so to start fresh, but AutoIt reverting and the beta disappearing, beats hands down, all the other weird things that have been happening. :)

Please accept my apologies for having wasted your time, I am surprised that I am running v.3.3.6.1, it should have been up to date! ;)

I will be updating it in a short while and all should be well.

On x64 it's possible to install AutoIt to the 32-bit or 64-bit Program Files directory. Doing so you can have an install (and a beta) completely hidden. Doing this requires manual intervention to the normal install process.
