I don't have UAC either, but I'm reluctant to try as I have the same concerns as wraithdu. Is there a reason you download to the Windows directory?

I download nothing with this script, but i didn't like idea to have files in temp dir of each users ( it creates useless copy of each files )

or in script dir ( i you move your script/executable, you need to delete attached files each time !)

That's why it seemed logical and more simple to use windows dir, but i didn't know about UAC problem...

You said you are reluctant, but is there any rules or wiki help/guide as said wraithdu for "good manners" ?

It's common practise to avoid writing to the Windows directory if you don't need to. That directory should only be touched my drivers, applications which modify files in there and Windows itself. There is rarely a good reason to write there.

I've pointed this out to you in the past with the application(s) you have that download images/files to the windows directory. But you want proof I see..

The Windows directory is the directory where some legacy applications store initialization and help files. New applications should not store files in the Windows directory; instead, they should store system-wide data in the application's installation directory, and user-specific data in the user's profile.

I personally don't like the practise to create any temp files if not needed. If possible I embed it into the script (disadvantage is the script size).

Have a look at this >>  I don't like that the icon is moved to the C:Windows directory, I changed it but is there a reason you install it there?

where you said you didn't like the icon is moved to windows dir, but not why !

Be more explicit next time.

i asked as said James for common practices or good manners who need to be followed, and not only for windows dir !

Yes, you're right, but there is an advantage ; when you need to update external files instead of entire script. :)

My AutoIt is not installed in the default location, you should take this in consideration when searching for SciTE path (line 207)

Another suggestion is to automatically select the best compression methode at the end of the analysis

Patch for the SciTE path

Local $sScitePath = RegRead("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AutoIt v3\AutoIt", "InstallDir") & "\SciTE\scite.exe"
        If FileExists($sScitePath) Then
            If $iCopy = 0 Then
                Run($sScitePath & ' "-import mono" "' & $sScriptFilePath & '"')
            Else
                ClipPut($sString)
_TrayTip($sSoftTitle, 'Script was Copied to the Clipboard !', 1, 3000)
            EndIf
        Else
            MsgBox(262144 + 4096 + 16, 'Error', "SciTE Editor was not found.", 5)
            ClipPut($sString)
_TrayTip($sSoftTitle, 'Script was Copied to the Clipboard !', 1, 3000)
        EndIf

That was October 2011, I didn't know much back then nor did I think to search MSDN, it was just a hunch I had of not using the Windows directory. I was pretty explicit this time though by providing a quote directly from Microsoft.

Sorry? But you asked in post 22 the following...

but is there any rules or wiki help/guide

...so I provided you with a description (proof) that it's documented on MSDN.  I don't understand why you're so hostile with me? I'm only helping you.

Don't take it personally, I think he's overwhelmed.

overwhelmed by what ?

May be my english understanding is bad, but i'm not hostile with anyone,

i like clear situations and this discussion seems to become confused.

So thanks for your msdn link,

and i will search if there is others "current practices" .

I'm probably doing something wrong but your script refuses to do what you say. Even the gui looks different, with no two-arrows pic control shown and with standard AutoIt icon.

I checked TempBTAK folder and I see that Convert.jpg and Win.ico are corrupted. Maybe that's the problem. Windows 7 here.

(Edited from original.  Please note that I AM NOT AN AUTOIT EXPERT.  I write code using Autoit frequently but I am no expert, especially when it comes to I/O.  So any remarks that start with "Why did you..." can be answered by referring to the first sentence.  This project was done in Autoit because of an interface I built to display the data.)
Attached is a program and ascii input file I wrote to read stock price data, convert it to binary and then read it back into the program in binary.  The goal was to show increased performance for reading the files in binary and provide a demo on how to read/write binary for int32, int64, double and strings for anyone who might find it helpful.  The results on my PC show the following:
Time to read ascii file only: 456.981951167202
Ascii read & process time: 6061.83075631701
      Binary write file time: 14787.9184635239
Time just to read binary file: 42.418867292311
Binary read and process time: 4515.16129830537
      A couple things to note:
      1) The 32 MB ascii file took 10x longer to read than the 15 MB binary file.  Not entirely sure why.  Both were read into a buffer.
      2) The Binary write takes a long time but I made no effort to optimize this because the plan was to write this file one time only so I don't mind if it takes longer to write this file.  I care much more about how long it takes to read the file because I will be reading it many times.
      3) There was a modest gain in converting the ascii file to binary in terms of file size and reading speed.
So big picture... not sure it's worth the effort to convert the files to binary even though most of the data is numerical data in the binary file.  That was actually surprising as I expected there would be more of a difference.  Any ideas on how to get the binary data to read at a faster rate would be great.

      AutoIt Machine Code Algorithm Collection
By Ward, November 11, 2010 in AutoIt Example Scripts
Posted November 11, 2010 (edited) I have already published a lot of AutoIt UDF about algorithm, but all of them only support 32 bits or so called X86 system. Recently I got a computer with Windows 7 64 bits, so I finally added X64 support to most of my old projects. Besides, I also added some new. For example, some compression algorithm and SHA3 Candidates.
      Following are the algorithms list:
Checksum   CRC16   CRC32   ADLER32 Compression   FastLZ   LZF   LZMA   LZMAT   MiniLZO   QuickLZ Encode   Base64   ARC4   XXTEA   DES   AES Hash   Checksums (CRC16/CRC32/ADLER32)   MD2   MD4   MD5   SHA1   SHA2 (SHA224/256/384/512)   SHA3 Candidates     BLAKE     BMW (Blue Midnight Wish)     CUBEHASH     ECHO     SHABAL     SKEIN Some points to mention:
All of the subroutines have one or more examples to demonstrate the usage. Since the function and usage of subroutine are easy to understand. A complete subroutines and parameters list are unavailability now. Sorry for my lazy. All of the subroutines here invoked by Lazycat's method (through CallWindowProc API). My MemoryDLL UDF is not necessary this time. Although MemoryFuncCall (part of MemoryDLL) is still good, but inevitably, it is slower than CallWindowProc. Some subroutines have the same name with my old machine code version UDF. But for some reason, I rearrange the position of the parameters. Please not mix up. If you notice, yes, checksums are duplicated. But they receive different parameters. One is the old style, and another use the same interface as other hashes. Choose what you like, but don't use them in the same time. Some algorithm already supported by the standard UDF "Encryption.au3". But I still provide them, because some system lack of the full support of Windows Crypt Library. If you are looking for only one hash algorithm, for example, used in encryption, I suggested "SHABAL_TINY.au3". Although it is a bit slower then SHABAL, but it is smaller, and it supports different size of output (from 32 to 512 bits).

      Hello,
I'm trying to read a binary file to an array but couln't get it to work.
Also I coul not find any help in the forum around this subject whish was helpfull.
Is there any way it could be done?
I tried a lot of ways but maybe somebody know's the right way?

      Hello.
A couple week ago i've started learning API Interface for different websites. In this fact sometimes you have to encode your "photo" or "document.body" to send request.
Functions to encode and decode Base64 was already created by others. Unfortunately i have troubles with running it on Windows R 2008, also speed was terrible.
I try to find alternative way to code data.
I've read about Microsoft "XMLDOM" and created a one simple function to Encode / Decode data to base64binary, base64url
Thanks for Ghads on Wordpress i coverted a part of his lines from VBscript to AutoIT
      ;============================================================================================================================== ; Function: base64($vCode [, $bEncode = True [, $bUrl = False]]) ; ; Description: Decode or Encode $vData using Microsoft.XMLDOM to Base64Binary or Base64Url. ; IMPORTANT! Encoded base64url is without @LF after 72 lines. Some websites may require this. ; ; Parameter(s): $vData - string or integer | Data to encode or decode. ; $bEncode - boolean | True - encode, False - decode. ; $bUrl - boolean | True - output is will decoded or encoded using base64url shema. ; ; Return Value(s): On Success - Returns output data ; On Failure - Returns 1 - Failed to create object. ; ; Author (s): (Ghads on Wordpress.com), Ascer ;=============================================================================================================================== Func base64($vCode, $bEncode = True, $bUrl = False) Local $oDM = ObjCreate("Microsoft.XMLDOM") If Not IsObj($oDM) Then Return SetError(1, 0, 1) Local $oEL = $oDM.createElement("Tmp") $oEL.DataType = "bin.base64" If $bEncode then $oEL.NodeTypedValue = Binary($vCode) If Not $bUrl Then Return $oEL.Text Return StringReplace(StringReplace(StringReplace($oEL.Text, "+", "-"),"/", "_"), @LF, "") Else If $bUrl Then $vCode = StringReplace(StringReplace($vCode, "-", "+"), "_", "/") $oEL.Text = $vCode Return $oEL.NodeTypedValue EndIf EndFunc ;==>base64
