legend,

This has been done for the equivalent dialog in SciTE but Jos is off skiing at the moment. I have let him know about the question, so please be patient until he returns and takes a closer look. ;)

What does the final 3 represent? Because I don't see that documented in the help file as a valid parameter value for the function.

I used a recursive function to run the FileSaveDialog again, first prompting the user to enter a valid file extension. The message box I use has Abort, Retry and Ignore options. Abort doesn't save the file, Ignore saves the file without an extension and Retry returns the user to the FileSaveDialog with the same data in the name field. This idea may not be suitable for your purposes. It's just a hack with fairly limited application.

Kafu's method works when there is only one possible extension, but I don't know how to solve the problem when multiple or unknown file types are allowed.

Legend,

As guinness suggested, this works

#include <StructureConstants.au3>
#include <WinAPI.au3>

$aFile = _WinAPI_GetSaveFileName("My Save File Dialog", _
        "Text File (*.txt)|AutoIt File (*.au3)", ".", _
        "", "au3", 2, 0, 0)
If $aFile[0] = 0 Then
    $sError = _WinAPI_CommDlgExtendedError()
    consolewrite(@error & ": " & $sError & @lf)
Else
    For $x = 1 To $aFile[0]
        consolewrite($aFile[$x] & @lf)
    Next
EndIf

This has been done for the equivalent dialog in SciTE but Jos is off skiing at the moment.

Had a look at the AutoIt3 source and see that the lpstrDefExt option isn't set for the FileDialog, similar to the original SciTE source, which means that the returned name is as-is.

The returned filename would have the default filter extension in case it is set to a space.

So this requires script logic like some of the examples here to get the same accomplished.

Nile,

Where do you get the 3 from? It's not documented in the help file.

Taken from the beta version of the help file.

#include <Constants.au3>

Example()

Func Example()
    ; Create a constant variable in Local scope of the message to display in FileSaveDialog.
    Local Const $sMessage = "Choose a filename."

    ; Display a save dialog to select a file.
    Local $sFileSaveDialog = FileSaveDialog($sMessage, "::{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}", "Scripts (*.au3)", $FD_PATHMUSTEXIST)
    If @error Then
        ; Display the error message.
        MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "", "No file was saved.")
    Else
        ; Retrieve the filename from the filepath e.g. Example.au3.
        Local $sFileName = StringTrimLeft($sFileSaveDialog, StringInStr($sFileSaveDialog, "\", $STR_NOCASESENSE, -1))

        ; Check if the extension .au3 is appended to the end of the filename.
        Local $iExtension = StringInStr($sFileName, ".", $STR_NOCASESENSE)

        ; If a period (dot) is found then check whether or not the extension is equal to .au3.
        If $iExtension Then
            ; If the extension isn't equal to .au3 then append to the end of the filepath.
            If Not (StringTrimLeft($sFileName, $iExtension - 1) = ".au3") Then $sFileSaveDialog &= ".au3"
        Else
            ; If no period (dot) was found then append to the end of the file.
            $sFileSaveDialog &= ".au3"
        EndIf

        ; Display the saved file.
        MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "", "You saved the following file:" & @CRLF & $sFileSaveDialog)
    EndIf
EndFunc   ;==>Example

The help file is of great help but when you notice it isn't offered by default or something is missing like the save dialog, you just have to make a workaround yourself.

I didn't notice but @KaFu already posted the solution before me :P

@guinness: Your function is not safe, what if the directory name contains a dot?

#include <Constants.au3>
Example()
Func Example()
 ; Create a constant variable in Local scope of the message to display in FileSaveDialog.
 Local Const $sMessage = "Choose a filename."
 ; Display a save dialog to select a file.
 Local $sFileSaveDialog = FileSaveDialog($sMessage, "::{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}", "Scripts (*.au3)", $FD_PATHMUSTEXIST)
 If @error Then
  ; Display the error message.
  MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "", "No file was saved.")
 Else
  ; Check if the extension .au3 is appended to the end of the filepath.
  Local $sExtension = _File_Extension($sFileSaveDialog, True)
  If $sExtension <> ".au3" Then $sFileSaveDialog &= ".au3"
  ; Display the saved file.
  MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "", "You saved the following file:" & @CRLF & $sFileSaveDialog)
 EndIf
EndFunc   ;==>Example
Func _File_Extension($sFile, $bLeadingDot = False)
 Local $sFilename = StringTrimLeft($sFile, StringInStr($sFile, "\", 0, -1))
 If Not StringInStr($sFilename, ".") Then Return ""
 If Not $bLeadingDot Then Return StringLower(StringTrimLeft($sFilename, StringInStr($sFilename, ".", 0, -1)))
 Return StringLower(StringTrimLeft($sFilename, StringInStr($sFilename, ".", 0, -1) - 1))
EndFunc   ;==>_File_Extension

Edit: By coincidence I'm currently tinkering on the _File_Extension() function :)...
