Inserting a JPEG in to a Word Doc template

5 posts in this topic

I have a really ghetto workaround in place for now to get this project going, but it's pretty embarrassing!!

I put together an inventory system in AutoIt, and it generates a JPEG with an item description, price, and a UPC. I am using a Word template I downloaded from http://www.onlinelabels.com/templates/OL875word.html and am currently inserting the JPEGs in the cells using Send commands, which is working but is kinda ridiculous! I experimented with the template to try to figure out how I could just insert the JPEG in to the cells I want with absolutely no luck and would really appreciate it if someone knew of a way to do it. The Word.au3 UDF doesn't seem to have any tricks up its sleeve to do this.

Other info, the JPEGs I am inserting are 243x94 pixels across, I will attach one for testing.

Thanks for any ideas!!

Ian

Based on the Word UDF you could use the COM interface and do it yourself.

Here is a howto from M$.

Use the InlineShape Interface and the AddPicture method to add your picture.

This thread might be helpful.

I've tooled around a bit and can't figure out how to get the pics to insert in a different column. The use of _WordDocAddPicture is straight forward for just putting in an image, and the help file shows adding many to a document, but I need to insert pictures in to each of 30 cells in a template, the one I linked to above. Any insights there?

Thanks

Ian

I haven't worked with Words COM interface very much. But I think you can set the 5th parameter of _WordDocAddPicture to a range that specifies where to position the picture.

Googling with "word position picture in table visual basic" I found the following posting.

Maybe it's of use and you can translate it to AutoIt.
