_HWID() Protect Your Script.

Generate a unique Hardware ID for a computer, for use with authentication/ licensing systems.

Updated and revised version generates the same HWID as long as no (fixed)hardware is added/removed from the pc(regardless of software changes)

Func _HWID()
local $drives = DriveGetDrive("FIXED")
local $space = 0
local $serial = ""
local $RAM = MemGetStats()
for $i=1 to $drives[0]
$space += DriveSpaceTotal ($drives[$i])
$serial &= StringUpper(DriveGetSerial($drives[$i]))
Next
$roms = DriveGetDrive("CDROM")
for $i=1 to $roms[0]
$serial &= StringUpper(DriveGetSerial($roms[$i]))
Next

local $original = "0"&@CPUArch & @KBLayout & $serial & $space & $RAM[1]
local $string2 = StringMid($original, Round(StringLen($original)/2), Round(StringLen($original)/2))
local $string2_mod = _StringToHex(_StringReverse($string2))
$original = _Crypt_EncryptData($original, $string2_mod, $CALG_RC4)
$original = _Crypt_HashData($original, $CALG_MD5)
Return $original
EndFunc

Why use _StringEncrypt? It's preferred to use the _Crypt_ functions.

IDK, I guess really i just didn't think about it.

Edit: Updated first post to use this method instead.

Your function is incorrectly using a variable and it would be best to provide an example of usage too. I personally would do it like this instead.

#include <Crypt.au3>

MsgBox(4096, '', _GetHWID())

Func _GetHWID()
    Local $aDrives = DriveGetDrive('FIXED'), $sOutput = ''
    If @error = 0 Then
        For $i = 1 To $aDrives[0]
            $sOutput &= DriveGetSerial($aDrives[$i])
        Next
    EndIf
    $aDrives = DriveGetDrive('CDROM')
    If @error = 0 Then
        For $i = 1 To $aDrives[0]
            $sOutput &= DriveGetSerial($aDrives[$i])
        Next
    EndIf
    Local $aMemory = MemGetStats()
    $sOutput &= @OSVersion & @OSBuild & @OSArch & @CPUArch & @KBLayout & $aMemory[1]

    $sOutput = StringStripWS($sOutput, 8)

What part of this looks like a HARDWARE ID to you? The part that involves the OS version, OS ARCH, and Build which has nothing to do with hardware, and totally defeats the idea of a HARDWARE ID? lol.

It would be best not to defeat the purpose of the function.

I also don't see a variable used improperly anywhere.

Hmm well then, looks like I should find a way to tell the difference, I'm sure there must be a way. (: (Probably with the serial key/label of the drives, or by "ejecting" all drives, and mapping only the DVD drives on the system, as when no iso is mounted, virtual drives show as cd drives.) So your keyboard layout changes when you wipe your pc, you suddenly shift the language you type in? I think the keyboard is hardware.

Nevermind, clearly you have an attitude and not open to suggestions. Good day to you.

Maybe if your arrogance didn't result in ignorance, which resulted in defeating the whole purpose of the function, I would be open to "suggestions", were that what it were, not half assed attempts to show me up/show off. I've seen your other posts too, always throwing in your "two cents" about how YOU think it ought to work. Guess what, it's not about YOU, especially when YOU often miss the point, as you clearly did with the hwid singleton post.

It doesn't work the way you think it should? Too bad, modify it for your own use, it's not your job to destroy the original purpose of an idea, because you think your idea is superior. Re-release it as your own snippet You code does not make a HWID, not even close, it makes a software and hardware ID, which is useless for independently creating an ID based on only the hardware of the computer, you might as well take a bunch of random ass info and hash it together, if you want to go that route.

k. thanks. Have a nice day.

I can admit when I'm wrong and yes I misunderstood (on this occasion) that you were trying to replicate _WinAPI_UniqueHardwareID in WinAPIEx, I have seen functions similar to this (with the same name) and they just try to create a unique id based on the user's system.

No, I wanted create a "true" hardware ID, that would result in the user using whatever O.S. or config they wanted, so long as their fixed hardware didn't change, and with a php backend, there can be a certain tolerance to allow x hardware changes per x time period. But the hardware is far less likely to change than the O.S., or O.S. version/build. And basically you know someone can really only have the time resources, and reason enough to modify their hardware so many times in say a month?

I apologize I've been a bit hostile lately. I simply meant what is the truth, that you did miss the point of the original function, because you assumed based on your previous experiences, which were ignorant to the actual meaning of HWID, that you knew I was trying to replicate said function.

but even if it changed,,, thats not solution for it,,, must be another way :)

What exactly do you mean?

ok,,, lets say u can unmount isos before installing your program, and user use it and ofcourse nothing problem with it...

then this is the limit, user can use your program if he/she always remember to unmount isos...

dont you think so?!

No.... the program should unmount all isos automatically using the "eject" feature, so that way the script could read the filesystem of the drive and tell the difference.

You're wrong. You set your keyboard layout, it is not hardware related.

Look in control panel -> region and language.

okay, but the point is, how often do people change the language their keyboard types in? Not very.
