Alternative to AutoIt?

Recommended Posts

TheDcoder

Hi, I am looking for a new programming language to learn, I found AutoIt the most suitable programming language for me (AutoIt FTW), any (very) similar languages to AutoIt?

TheDcoder,

If all you want is something similar, why not try to master AutoIt first. ;)

If you're proficient in AutoIt then should know by now that a question such as this is a little vague, so I will provide some generic languages you could use on both. C#, Java, python, javascript, trypescript, ruby...etc.

You want too much at once. Windows and Linux are different. Set of properties of a window or files are different. What you have in Windows may not be available on Linux and vice versa. Linux uses Python. But it's hard to be retrained. In Python more difficult to make a window. In Python more difficult to fulfill mechanisms return errors. There is no documentation in the mother tongue. More precisely there is but not in full. By the way some of my programs written in AutoIt work using Wine.

To create a window into the AutoIt function is used GUICreate. To create a window in Python need to create a more complex structure. In AutoIt I made since the early days of GUI and continued to rack up its interesting teams. Unfortunately in Python I face constant problems: I can't create the menu in a tray, I learned two months how to make a window. Perhaps you're lucky more, it depends on your strength.

@Dcoder - I'm sure you are not alone.

I for one, would love to be able to code in Linux (more precisely Android) like I do in Windows with AutoIt.

From my investigations, it is a steep learning curve of thinking in a different way ... this old dog is not sure he wants to learn that new trick.

It would be marvelous to see a creation of my own on my phone or a tablet, that did something I could really use. :D

At the moment, I've decided to pray to the expanding Universe and face Donut (like Mecca to some), for a miracle written in AutoIt, that will create Android apps (i.e. as a frontend). One lives in hope. o:)

Either that, or Jon & Team go into business and create their own AutoIt driven phone and tablet. :muttley:

Android Studio is one recommendation of mine if you want to great Android apps. I am in the process of learning it right now.

I believe I looked at that a while back, just kind of briefly, and it appeared you really needed to be more conversant with Java than I am. It might be worth another look now, from what I've just seen on Wikipedia?

EDIT

So how long before you start working on that AutoIt frontend? :muttley:;):P

Since we answer the "Does AutoIt work on other platforms?" question every couple of weeks, I say we have Jon figure out the cost of doing it, and we can then answer "Yes, it will, when we raise $x. You can donate here" :)

I think we should bypass most of that, and just start a fund for AutoIt to run on  :ILA3:  Linux. :muttley:

With small print saying we are not required to deliver on a such a herculean task ... and we don't give the money back of course.

We'd need Jon's input as to what it would take, both financially and time, to get it right. But if people can get $250k to study mushrooms on Kickstarter, I say we should be able to get AutoIt on Linux going :)

Apparently so, found one that runs in scite here

Seems like you need extra android software though, or perhaps your android device connected via USB in debug mode.

EDIT:

Half right, need an android emulator.

Hello friends, I have a query, it happens that I have a matrix nxn, the first column of this contains each cell a number with 21 digits, when I pass this matrix to Excel I obviously write that number as 1,10016E + 20, I solved it by adding a * at the end of each cell, but I want it to be written as a text so that I do not have to remove that *, I searched in Google but could not find an effective solution, thanks in advance.

Hi, This is my first post on the AutoIt Forums, I most of the time was able to get help from this community by merely searching though google and have been able to solve hundreds of problems this way, though in this case I was incapable of finding a solution to my problem. I am quite confident that it is a user error (And my fault) but I haven't been able to determine what I did wrong, any and all help would be greatly appreciated! I have uploaded my whole script pardon passwords to provide as much information as possible.
I declared a global array at the top of the script and am having issues when I try to set it's value, and I fail to understand why.

Hey. I'm working on a new project and was wondering if there is a better way to "update" my Column E array.
      Here is my code:
      Local $nI  = 0                                                            ;Creates a name index of 0: nI = Name index Local $nII = 1                                                            ;Creates a name index of 1 for second loop: nII = Name Index 2 For    $iN = 0 To $IndexRows Step 1                                       ;Checks the roster for any names that appear twice      For $iN2 = 0 To $IndexRows Step 1          if $d_Names[$nI] == $d_Names[$nII] And $d_Names[$nII] <> "" Then              Local $timeSheetName = _ArraySearch($e_Names, $d_Names[$nI], 0, 0, 0, 0, 1)              ;MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "Found it", $d_Names[$nI] & " In column E on Row " & $timeSheetName)              Local $eI  = $timeSheetName + 1              ;ConsoleWrite($timeSheetName & @CRLF)              ;ConsoleWrite($eI & @CRLF)              ;ConsoleWrite(@CRLF)              _Excel_RangeInsert($OpenWorkbook.ActiveSheet, "E" & $eI & ":F" & $eI, $xlShiftDown)                                                                          ;Inserts a empty cell in columns E and F.              _Excel_RangeWrite($OpenWorkbook, $OpenWorkbook.ActiveSheet, $d_Names[$nII], "E" & $eI)                                                                         ;Fills the empty cell in columns E with the doubled name              $aArray_Index = 2                                           ;Array element counter              For $Index = 2 To $IndexRows Step 1                        ;Loops through every row in the Excel file unto no rows are found or a null row is found                  $Array_Value_E = _Excel_RangeRead($OpenWorkbook, Default, "E"&$Index)                  $e_names[$aArray_Index] = $Array_Value_E                ;While the code loops every value in column E is stored in the E array (updating the array)                  $aArray_Index += 1              Next              ExitLoop          EndIf      Next      $nI  += 1      $nII += 1 Next Basically, It checks a roster for people whose name appears twice then inserts a new "row" for that person because they work in two different departments.
I have to find that name however in Column E if two appear in column D. My code works but I think it is not as efficient as it could be.
Any ideas on how to improve the "update" for my array?
(once it finds the double names in Column D it then searches for that name by going name by name in the Column E array and once it finds it inserts a new row. However, the E array doesn't have that new row stored in it so I have to "update" the array to properly find the next name)
Any and all tips would be greatly appreciated.

NOTE: Just assume I'm opening the excel file properly please do not add that code in, it only complicates your answer.
