database network protection

Hello Autoit Developers,

I have write a simple database program in Autoit, it reside in a network share. The program works very well, and I have made a backup to protect him. It's happen that a unknown user have delete the database file, more than one time in the year. What are our common policy for protecting a database in the network ?. Thank you.

A common best practice would be to setup an database server in stead of using a file that can be deleted.
In that way you can better protect the data and also refine the access to the tables.

Which engine are you talking about? You say "the DB file" and that would seem to mean you're trying to use SQLite over a network. If so, don't do that: SQLite is not for use over a network due to network file locking protocols being unreliable (all of them).

As Jos said, you'd be safer using a client/server engine which offers all the security walls you need.

and ... yes I use Sqlite with Autoit (in network) and I have never have problems with that.

can you reccomend me a client/server db that is supported in Autoit ??

Using ado.au3 You can Use MySQL mssql POSTGRESQL

Are your DBs used by more than one single program/thread/computer at a given time (that is: do your DBs incur any concurrency)? If yes, then SQLite will fail over a network, one day or the other.

Any client/server engine offering an ADO layer (ODBC) will do. Even SQLite if wrapped inside a client/server layer.
