interact with an existent edge window

Hello,

nice to meet you! This is my first post and and  I am new to autoit so please be patient If I will not be very precise.

I need your help in understanding how to implement my use case. I have a usecase where an application open a web page on edge and I need to populate some information on that page using the html selectors. Is this feasible?

Tipically I open my webpage directly with the webdriver but this time I cannot since the application uses some random information in the url, so i have to wait the page is open and then interact with them. How can i do that? Can I use the webdriver also in this case?

Hello Danp2,

I don t have many detailts to add. It's a product so I don 't know in depth what happend in the backgroud.

Currently I launch an application (with a simple double lick on the icon) that opens my web page, and after the  login on the web page, the original app runs.. There is an agent running on the workstation that make webpage and app interact but this is an other story.. . All I want is to interact with the web page even if I don t start it directly..

Can you share the name of the app and the website it loads? What happens if load Edge before launching the application? Does the website load in a separate window or a new tab within the existing window? I'm trying to see if you end up with two separate instances of Edge running at the same time.

The app is the Siemens Teamcenter and it has been customized for other requirements so i cannot use the standard sso feature. The site is not accessible from Internet.

I have just tried to open the app with edge already open and it opens a new tab on the current edge.

Ok... see if you get the same behavior but with an instance of Edge that was launched via webdriver.

With webdriver the behavior is different: the application opens a new edge window ignoring the one opened with webdriver

That's unfortunate. You may need to use UIAutomation instead of WebDriver.

I think that you can use UIAutomation to interact with the website's elements, but the process is very different. One other thing you could try before giving up on Webdriver is to use your existing user profile instead of allowing the creation of a temporary profile. This is covered in the FAQ section of the Wiki (see link in my sig).
