Help File won't display

Hello all,

I'm a long time AutoIt user but have not written a acript in a few months.

In any event, I opened SciTe today to modify an old script of mine and in the process i needed help on a function, so I pressed F1 to access help. The Help window displayed and the help subjects appeared in the left pane but nothing appeared in the right pane (where the contents of the selected item usually appear).

I've re-installed AutoIt twice and SciTe once but to no avail. I've also disabled all virus and firewalls and still no joy.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Uninstalled and manually deleted the AutoIt directory and any files within. Re-installed and still no help contents will show.

More info: My system is Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Try right clicking the help files (*.chm) and see if you have an unblock option in the properties of them.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I have just tried that and I have no Unblock option, and disabling anti-virus, firewall didn't help either.

Strange it's system wide, all .chm files, going to try a Microsoft fix.

Looks to be an issue with my windows 7 profile somehow. I created a new user and it's working fine on that account.

This windows install is from October 2010 and it's used heavily for work installing, testing, scripting, and day to day fuctions, probably do for a refresh.

Thanks for the help trouble shooting this issue.

I would agree, it seems the association of the chm filetype, not an AutoIt issue.

Can you open any chm files with a double left click? If you can't, it's either the association, or the exe (C:Windowshh.exe) where it opens what has some problem, or disappeared, do you have that exe in windows dir?

This is a registry code, to give you the context menu item "Open with..."

Right click the item with the chm extension, browse to C:windowshh.exe, select it,

And tick the box, "always open with". (or whatever it is written)

It'll set the file association if there was any problem with it, and should open.

I know what your stating careca, It's the first thing I checked as well, but in my case that’s not it, or at least not entirely.

Chm files open fine I just get nothing displaying in the right pane. Associations are fine also. Like I previously posted it all works when I logon to a different windows profile. Obviously I must have some corruption or clashing settings/programs that are profile specific.

Just wanted to let future searchers know to try a different profile if associations seem fine.

Try using IE to surf the web if you're not already doing that. If you can't use IE to get on the web you might have a virus. CHM files use IE to read them.
