Decipher
I'm learning C would this be a good project? Is it worth it? What should I watch out for besides buffer overflows? Spoiler

Decipher
I know thats what I was thinking. But I can begin to convert the similar-easier functions, learn more about the language and C as I go then advance to the more complex ones. I though Pherhaps if I had enough code converted and submitted some performance statistics then It could lead to something great. Ascend4nt
It'd be kind of amusing to try to tackle a huge project like AutoIt as a learning experiment. I'd think it'd be pretty discouraging.I will say this, however - the last release code snapshot was really more C than C++. In fact, I'd say it was 'C with objects'.. nothing resembling code an experienced C++ programmer would write, which is why I typically took the 'C++ advice' given in this forum with a grain (no, a truckload) of salt. Developers Jos Posted April 3, 2013 Developers Share Posted April 3, 2013 We've had this topic on these forums before. BCX is a project like this and I am actually still using BCX to code Tidy and Obfuscator. Reason at the time was that I wanted to make Tidy, which initially was coded in AutoIt3, much faster. Since BCX also uses a BASIC kind of syntax, it was relatively easy to convert the AutoIt3 syntax to BCX. The by far biggest issue wass to handle all behind the scenes stuff AutoIt3 does, now all by myself in BCX/C. Decipher
Just because something is hard dosen't mean it shouldn't be attempted - read my sig. I would assume there is a tremendous amount of code and that there are the bits that should be quite easy and some that would require research thus the learning part. If I was to convert even a notable percentage of AutoIt's code then could we not say that I'd learnt enough about how it works to attempt tackling the more sophisticated areas? Why is everyone is so skeptical? I'm sure that the developers don't think that its so complicated as they're familiar with its code. So is it because they are so much more intelligent then the ones who actually use AutoIt because they lack the present knowledge to utilize lower level programming languages? No, quite simply just because I know something that you do not does make me anymore intelligent then you, you could learn what I know and I'm sure there is something which you know that I do not.
