Best way to draw 2D Tiled game graphics in AutoIT?

Hi all,

I'm bored so I feel like coding an old Spectrum game I used to play in AutoIT. I'm fairly confident that I can easily accomplish the game flow / controls / AI etc. I'm just unsure of the most efficient way to draw the graphics. (I don't really do or especially understand graphics programming)

Basically the game works on a grid. Players / Enemies only move by increments of the grid size. I'm thinking around a 30x20 grid of 16 pixel squares but I'll have to take another look at the original to get a faithful reproduction of the original.

I'm aware that there are more appropriate ways to develop this but I haven't had much reason to use AutoIT for quite some time and I'm looking for an excuse.

Any advice or just some pointers to some appropriate reading would be most welcome.

Edit: Further information. If it's useful in deciding the best way to go. The game screen will actually consist of a 32x22 grid of 8x8 pixel tiles. Each tile will only contain 2 colours and there will only be 9 colours in the whole game. A maximum of 30 tiles will change per game tick and the game will tick 3 times per second. The number of tiles will be quite limited (There will be a set of 14 tiles, each in 7 colours, and then a further 4 tiles which are always the same colour)

Hi,

Before anyone else reports this thread, can I point out that writing games in AutoIt is positively encouraged - the Forum rules are only relevant when AutoIt is used to interact with existing games. :)

Thanks, I'd just spotted that, The Space Invaders example by Eigensheep is exactly what I was looking for.  :thumbsup:
