Email Parser

I am working on a project that I need to seperate the different parts of an email. I have been searching the forums and have not found anything that works reliably.

I am aware of:

However it is too basic, and fails on quite a few emails.

I am in the process of rolling up my sleeves and making my own, but I just wanted to see if anybody knows of anything that has already been done...I don't want to reinvent the wheel. Also if anybody knows of any clear document defining the standard for emails...I'd greatly appreciate it.

Can you provide some examples how you want to seperare the different parts of an email?

What parts to be exact? Have you look at using a regular expression? Perhaps search google or bing for a regular expression to parse an email address.

The example in my original post is about what I am looking for, but it fails in to many cases.

I basically want a function that returns an array that has:

[1] From:email

[2] From:name

[3] To email

[4] To Name

[5] Email subject

[6] Email body. (if it is a multipart message it would return the html part)

[7] Attatchment name

[8] Attachment content.

It depends on the way you want to access the mail server.

Let's say you use Outlook then my OutlookEX UDF can provide the needed information.

working on same subject. See poor support for downloading mail, i'm using popmail, a very friendly command line utility.

After download MIME emails, I parse txt file searching for info i need, and shot into mysql db.

Read post find script usefull as starting point, but user forgot to open and read file, before parsing text.

Try to correct to obtain usable code (see MrCreatoR hand on elaborate StringRegExp)

Maybe some AI guru can give some help to create a definitive MIME mail parser ?
