Please help me a little bit

12 posts in this topic

Hello I am new in this programming language. I wanna know how can I create a program, which monitors that what program did the user start. For example: When I run xy.exe, then it writes into a file like this: Program [xy.exe] started...

And when I close it then it writes: Program [xy.exe] ended.

So the program automatically recognize that what program did I open.

Thanks for help!

Hi, kulcsarbence. Are you meaning you want to write out to a log file for every program started, or just looking for when a specific program starts? Maybe if you explain what exactly you're trying to accomplish, and with what program(s), it would be easier to direct you.

What is the purpose of this? You could always run a ProcessList command in a loop and watch for differences in what's running at each iteration. It would probably slow your system down considerably though depending upon how often it's checked.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Depending on how proficient you are with AutoIt, have a search for WM_SHELLHOOK and $HSHELL_WINDOWDESTROYED, $HSHELL_WINDOWCREATED. You might need to use Google or such-like to get an idea of how to implement this. You will also need to understand GUIRegisterMsg.

Have fun!

Why do you want to know which program is started by a user? Isn't this the job of the N-S-A ;)

Ha, personally I use it for tracking down the source of a virus, see who has logged in to the machine, when an update was run, whether or not some kid ran a game from a flash drive(schools), etc...

Are you the administrator of this network, or just doing this on your own? If you are the admin, there are other tools that do auditing for you natively.

Administrator of several nonprofits, budgets for SCCM and the like is nill. Sometimes they barely have domains.

Are they Windows domains though?? You can turn on auditing in A.D. to get a lot of what you're after.

Yes they are, but I also do some breakfixes in domains that I don't manage.
