script works fine except on Windows 8.1

Recommended Posts

Greetings:

I have a simple script that allows the techs where I work to toggle autologon on public computers.  It works on XP, Win7, don't know about Win8, but definitely not on Windows8.1.  The registry values to change are the same on all the systems, but the Win8.1 systems just don't get the registry rewritten.

Here's the code:

#include <Misc.au3>
_Singleton("CUOPAC8 Autologon Helper.exe", 0)

MsgBox (1, "CUOPAC8 Profile Only", "Use this program on systems running the CUOPAC8 profile only.")

$i = MsgBox (3, "Autologon", "Do you want this computer to autologon with cuopac8 credentials?")
If $i = 2 Then ; cancel button
   Exit
ElseIf $i = 7 Then ; no button
   RegWrite ("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon", "AutoAdminLogon", "REG_SZ", "0")
MsgBox (1, "Autologon", "This computer now has autologon disabled.")
ElseIf $i = 6 Then ; yes button
   RegWrite ("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon", "AutoAdminLogon", "REG_SZ", "1")
   RegWrite ("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon", "DefaultDomainName", "REG_SZ", "FORSYTH")
   RegWrite ("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon", "DefaultPassword", "REG_SZ", "12Opac34")
   RegWrite ("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon", "DefaultUserName", "REG_SZ", "cuopac8")
MsgBox (1, "Autologon", "This computer will log on with cuopac8 credentials upon reboot.")
EndIf

Like I say, it works fine, just not on Windows8.1.  Any ideas are welcome, and thanks in advance.

mLipok,

Thanks for the replies.  I have downloaded the latest stable AutoIt (3.3.10.2), but haven't installed yet.   I did find the answer to my problem, though, after reading a few posts.  There was some talk about using HKLM64 to access the 64-bit portion of the registry.  I always assumed that was referring to the WOW6432 node, but my needed change was not in the WOW6432 node.  Nevertheless, I rewrote the script using HKLM64, and behold, it works fine!

Now I'm confused why the old scripts worked in so many 64-bit systems without complaint.  But, I never argue with success!

I suppose,  since we (the library where I work) have quite a few different public logins for different branches and for different operating systems, I should script up a GUI so that one script fits all.
