gcue
hello.world is stringregexpreplace better than stringregexp? it seems faster since you dont really have to do error checking - worst case scenario you just get the string back.. however with stringregexp you have to do error checking then get the array record you want. for instance, i want to get the version (470.068) from this string <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <PackageConfig> <LocalVersion>470.068</LocalVersion> </PackageConfig> with stringregexp $results = StringRegExp($data, '<LocalVersion>(.*?)</LocalVersion>', 3) if @error then msg(0,"","error") return endif with stringregexpreplace, wouldnt it just be one line? by the way what would be the equivalent - havent figured it out yet thanks
mikell
$data = "<LocalVersion>470.068</LocalVersion>" $results = StringRegExp($data, '<LocalVersion>(.*?)</LocalVersion>', 3) Msgbox(0,"", (@error<>0) ? "error" : $results[0]) BTW you can't get an array of results using SRER
gcue
in some cases we dont want an array of results.. but in lots of cases we're just after 1 result =) do you know what the equivalent stringregexpreplace for the above?

sahsanu
do you know what the equivalent stringregexpreplace for the above? $results = StringRegExpReplace($sString, '(?s).*<LocalVersion>(.*?)</LocalVersion>.*', "$1") Anyway, there is no better function, it depends what are you trying to achieve. jguinch
The equivalent could be : $result = StringRegExpReplace($data, "(?is).*<LocalVersion>([\d.]+)</LocalVersion>.*", "$1") if NOT @extended then MsgBox(0,"","error") Mikell : we post the same code at the same time... mLipok
is stringregexpreplace better than stringregexp? It depends on what you want to use the function. If you want to change the protium String A to string B is actually better is StringRegExpReplace. If you want to string which is a number, add changing the numeric value, you definitely need to use StringRegExp. is stringregexpreplace better than stringregexp? What you mean: better ? mikell
It was a sample code, obviously you'll need to manage the pattern depending on what you exactly want - in this case (?s) if the dot in the leading and trailing .* must match newlines
