Unable to open notepad file with AutoIt

Recommended Posts

Inpho

Hi all, beginner here (15+ years since my last dabbling in code)

I've searched extensively in Help and in various threads here, and I feel like I've tried everything. No matter what, I can't get AutoIt to open a notepad file.

From >here, I have tried this

$program_location = @ProgramFilesDir & "\Folder\program.exe"
$file_location = "C:\Desktop\text.txt"
Run( $program_location & " " & $file_location & "")

From >here, I have tried this

I have tried ShellExecute and OpenFile too, and this is the code i'm trying to integrate it into, with something else I've tried:

#include <ButtonConstants.au3>
#include <EditConstants.au3>
#include <GUIConstantsEx.au3>
#include <StaticConstants.au3>
#include <WindowsConstants.au3>
#Region ### START Koda GUI section ### Form=
Global $Form1 = GUICreate("Form1", 518, 768)
Global $Label1 = GUICtrlCreateLabel("FRA", 104, 64, 26, 17)
Global $Label2 = GUICtrlCreateLabel("GER", 384, 64, 26, 17)
Global $List1 = GUICtrlCreateList("Changelog", 8, 632, 497, 129)
Global $Button1 = GUICtrlCreateButton("Contact me", 200, 24, 75, 25)
Global $Label3 = GUICtrlCreateLabel("FRA entry", 16, 96, 196, 497)
Global $Label4 = GUICtrlCreateLabel("GER entry", 296, 96, 204, 497)
GUISetState(@SW_SHOW)
#EndRegion ### END Koda GUI section ###

While 1
    $msg = GUIGetMsg()
If $msg = $Button1 Then
    $_path = "M:\autoit\training\test.txt"
    $_Run = "notepad.exe "
ConsoleWrite ( "$_Run : " & "$_path" & @Crlf )
    ElseIf $msg = $GUI_EVENT_CLOSE Then
        Exit(1)
EndIf
WEnd

I've tried so many more things trying to get this to work; I've been watching youtube tutorials and working with examples etc, but I've got no clue why it won't open the file. No tutorials seem to cover what I want. Am I doing something drastically wrong?

Thanks

ConsoleWrite ( "$_Run : " & "$_path" & @Crlf )

will show you:

$_Run : $_path

not the value.

You can try this:

ConsoleWrite ( $_Run & " : " & $_path & @Crlf )

EDIT:

Welcome to the forum.

mLipok

EDIT 2:

you can try also this:

$_path = "M:\autoit\training\test.txt"
$_Run = "notepad.exe"

Run($_Run & " " & $_path)

Thanks for fast reply

You can try this:

ConsoleWrite ( $_Run & " : " & $_path & @Crlf )

This doesn't open the file, but pops a line in bottom of SciTe:

notepad.exe  : M:\autoit\training\test.txt

you can try also this:

$_path = "M:\autoit\training\test.txt"
$_Run = "notepad.exe"

Run($_Run & " " & $_path)

This unfortunately doesn't open the file either, and doesn't pop the same lineas above in SciTe.

I'm running as admin, with UAC turned off, I've tried compling the script instead of running in SciTe, is there something fundamental that I've missed? I'm guessing it's a very beginner problem :P

Notepad is in the windows directory:

@WindowsDir

not

@ProgramFilesDir

Maybe this is it. Where is the location of the text file you are trying to open?

Get Scite to add a popup when you use a 3rd party UDF -> http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/scite/docs/SciTE4AutoIt3/user-calltip-manager.html

I just made this and it opened my file

Run(@WindowsDir & "\Notepad.exe" & " " & "C:\LiqList.txt")

Get Scite to add a popup when you use a 3rd party UDF -> http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/scite/docs/SciTE4AutoIt3/user-calltip-manager.html

This worked as well

$program_location = @WindowsDir & "\Notepad.exe"
$file_location = "C:\LiqList.txt"
Run($program_location & " " & $file_location)
;Run(@WindowsDir & "\Notepad.exe" & " " & "C:\LiqList.txt")

Ah yes, thanks

com; seems it was defaulting to wrong directory to open notepad.exe, setting the full path of notepad opened notepad correctly

mL; yes thats perfect thanks, although it opened my current project file as notepad file, after editing @SFP to $_path it works perfectly

How it looks now, marking it solved, thanks again :)

If you want to mark this thread as solved you can use a special button (see my signature), and btw. the best answer is your own post #8 (i think so).
Its mean you can mark your own post as "Best answer"
