IE - Select Option from Dropdown List

13 posts in this topic

Hello all,

Would you please give me some direction on selecting an option from a Dropdown List on a website? Here is an excerpt from the website's source:

<table cellspacing="1" cellpadding="3" align="Center" rules="cols" border="3" id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_gridviewUnitList" style="border-color:White;border-width:3px;border-style:Outset;font-size:Small;width:403px;z-index: 100; left: 0px; position: absolute; top: 0px">
                <tr class="TableHeader">
                    <th scope="col">Unit#</th><th scope="col">Driver Name</th><th scope="col">Select Option</th>
                </tr><tr class="TableCell">
                    <td align="center" valign="middle" style="width:10%;white-space:nowrap;"> 14845</td><td align="center" valign="middle" style="width:10%;white-space:nowrap;">Last, First M</td><td align="center" valign="middle" style="width:8%;white-space:nowrap;">
                        <select name="ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$gridviewUnitList$ctl02$dropdownlistSelectOption" onchange="javascript:setTimeout(&#39;__doPostBack(\&#39;ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$gridviewUnitList$ctl02$dropdownlistSelectOption\&#39;,\&#39;\&#39;)&#39;, 0)" id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_gridviewUnitList_ctl02_dropdownlistSelectOption" title=" 14845BREDO        14845" class="DropDownList01" style="width:138px;z-index: 100;
                            left: 4px; position: relative; top: 0px">

    </div>
        <span id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_labelUnitListError" class="Error01" style="display:inline-block;width:332px;z-index: 107;
            left: 435px; position: absolute; top: 3px"> </span>

</div>

                                            </td>
                                    </tr>
                               </table>
                            </td>
                            <td class="RightBorder" style="height: 665px; width: 12px;">

                        </tr>
                    </table>
                </td>
            </tr>
        </table>
        <div Style="z-index:222" align="center" class="copyright" </div>
    </form>

It appears that the Dropdown List is within a table that is within a form.

The subject Dropdown List doesn't come up when I utilize the following functions:

_IEFormElementGetCollection

'or

_IEFormGetCollection

When I execute this code:

$oSelect = _IEFormElementGetObjByName($oForm, "ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$gridviewUnitList$ctl02$dropdownlistSelectOption")

I receive the following error:

--> IE.au3 T3.0-2 Warning from function _IEFormElementGetObjByName, $_IESTATUS_NoMatch

I would sincerely appreciate any advance you can offer (or charge me for)

Thank you,

Nick

try this:

$oIE_ctl102 = _IEGetObjById($oIE, 'ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_gridviewUnitList_ctl02_dropdownlistSelectOption')
_IEFormElementOptionSelect($oIE_ctl102, 3, 1, 'byIndex')

I appreciate your prompt reply. I receive the following error messages:

--> IE.au3 T3.0-2 Warning from function _IEGetObjById, $_IESTATUS_NoMatch (ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_gridviewUnitList_ctl02_dropdownlistSelectOption)
--> IE.au3 T3.0-2 Error from function _IEFormElementOptionSelect, $_IESTATUS_InvalidDataType

Do you have an idea as to why there is "NoMatch" since the object can be clearly seen in the website's source?

Test your website like this:

_IEFrameGetCollection($oIE)
MsgBox(0, 'Test', 'Whether on the website are frames: ' & (@extended > 0))

then if you found that this is true, you should try something like this:

Local $oFrame = _IEFrameGetCollection($oIE,1)
Local $oIE_ctl102 = _IEGetObjById($oFrame, 'ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_gridviewUnitList_ctl02_dropdownlistSelectOption')
_IEFormElementOptionSelect($oIE_ctl102, 3, 1, 'byIndex')

You should to know that each frame is separate IE Document, so you need to treat it as separate $oIE "main" object.

The result of the frame collection test was false. Accordingly, there were No Matches for the subsequent code.

Do you think I may be encountering a problem because the webpage contains javascript?

Sleep(5000) ; for test only
_IEFrameGetCollection($oIE)
MsgBox(0, 'Test', 'Whether on the website are frames: ' & (@extended > 0))

add Sleep(5000) ; 5 second

If JavaScript doing anything then I think 5 second is enough to JavaScript end his work.
But in this case I do not think that JavaScript will create separate Frames , rather works inside, on of document.
Of course JavaScript can navigate one of existing Frames to other document (e.g. different URL), but in this case Frames will exist befor JavaScript start his work.

The result is still false. Also, I failed to mention that the webpage URL ends in .aspx.

Now I'm on to try your next suggestion, thank you.

No matter about it. IE ActvieX object handles it internally. For you this is normal HTML DOM .

Then put Clipboard content in new empty scite document tab.

and try to find if there is or not "ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_gridviewUnitList_ctl02_dropdownlistSelectOption"

When I execute your code, I still receive the "NoMatch" error message for the _IEGetObjByID function. I'm shocked that I'm unable to find the string: "ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_gridviewUnitList_ctl02_dropdownlistSelectOption" in the 195 lines of content that is placed on the clipboard.

If I add a 5 second pause before executing your above code, then the contents of the clipboard are simply:

<html><head></head><body></body></html>

The whole reason I added the pause was because the Clipboard content is actually the source of previous login page.

Here is the respective code I'm utilizing:

$hIE = _IEPropertyGet($oIE, "hwnd")
ControlSend($hIE, "", "[CLASS:Internet Explorer_Server; INSTANCE:1]", $sPassword)

_IELinkClickByText($oIE, "Log In")
_IELoadWait($oIE, 5000)

;***Difficulty Selecting from Dropdown****

;Sleep(5000)

ClipPut(_IEDocReadHTML($oIE))
$oIE_ctl102 = _IEGetObjById($oIE, 'ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_gridviewUnitList_ctl02_dropdownlistSelectOption')
_IEFormElementOptionSelect($oIE_ctl102, 3, 1, 'byIndex')

Do you think I'm misusing a function prior to executing your suggested code?

When you succesully login try to use _IEAttach to get "new" $oIE object
