_ADO - Domain Authentication

Recommended Posts

@mLipok, having a problem with your ADO UDF.

Here's my code.  I'm just taking your API example and checking to see if I can get it to work for what I need.

#Tidy_Parameters=/sort_funcs /reel
#AutoIt3Wrapper_Au3Check_Parameters=-d -w 1 -w 2 -w 3 -w- 4 -w 5 -w 6 -w 7

#include "ADO_API.au3"

Func _Main()
    ; now to execute query you should only do a "ONE LINER" to get ArrayOfArray :)
    Local $aResult_1 = _ADO_API("select * from dbo.[Site] WHERE Code = '1423'")

    ; if you want to show the result you should use ADO.au3 function

Func _Setup()
    Local $sDriver = 'SQL Server'
    Local $sDatabase = 'VLAN_Name'
    Local $sServer = 'SQL.domain.local'
    Local $sUser = 'domain.local\testuser'
    Local $sPassword = 'this domain password'

    ; SetUP internal ADO.au3 UDF COMError Handler

    ; first you must SetUp Connection String
    _ADO_API_ConnectionString('DRIVER={' & $sDriver & '};SERVER=' & $sServer & ';DATABASE=' & $sDatabase & ';UID=' & $sUser & ';PWD=' & $sPassword & ';')

When I run it I get this error:

ADO.au3 v.2.1.15 BETA (1100) : ==> COM Error intercepted !
$oADO_Error.description is:     [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver] Login failed for user 'domain.local\testuser'.

$oADO_Error.windescription:     Exception occurred.

$oADO_Error.number is:     80020009
$oADO_Error.lastdllerror is:     0
$oADO_Error.scriptline is:     1100
$oADO_Error.source is:     Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers
$oADO_Error.helpfile is:
$oADO_Error.helpcontext is:     0

I suspect that it's related to the fact that I'm trying to use a domain account instead of a local SQL account, but I need to be able to authenticate as a domain user since I don't know any of the local account passwords.  I have full rights to the database.  Am I missing something in how I initiate the connection?

And I did just get verification that it's because it's a domain account on the SQL server's logs:

Login failed for user 'domain.local\testuser'. Reason: Attempting to use an NT account name with SQL Server Authentication. [CLIENT:]

So the question is, how can I use a domain account to authenticate instead of local SQL credentials?  I haven't been able to find anything in the forums pointing anyone in that direction.

Maybe this could be helpful :)

  • I will always thank you for the time you spent for me.
    I'm here to ask, and from your response, I'd like to learn.
    By my knowledge, I can help someone else, and "that someone" could help in turn another, and so on.
