Passing a part of a multidimensional array to a function

Hi,

I have a multidimensional array, and I want to use a part of it to pass it to a Func

Below is an example of what I want to do.

First I declare my array and fill it with values.

Then I use a For ... in ... Next to pass the two dimensional sub array to a function MyFunc

In the Function MyFunc I want to handle the parameters

Dim $MultiArray[5][2] = [["String 1", 6], _
             ["String 2", 7], _
             ["String 3", 8], _
             ["String 4", 9], _
             ["String 5", 10]]

For $SubArr in $MultiArray
     MyFunc($SubArr)
Next
Exit

Func MyFunc(ByRef $Arr)
     ConsoleWrite($Arr[0] & " - " $Arr[1])
EndFunc

For me, this seemed a logic way to do this but AutoIt doesn't seem to follow my logic :-)

Is there a way to make this work?

Why don't you just pass the multidimensional array to the function and only use the part of the array you need?

I could do that, but even then I want to handle the subbarrays with a For ... in ... Next loop and I think it's going wrong at that point, because the code below also doesn't work

Dim $MultiArray[5][2] = [["String 1", 6], _
                    ["String 2", 7], _
                   ["String 3", 8], _
                   ["String 4", 9], _
                   ["String 5", 10]]

For $SubArr in $MultiArray

A subarray is a row or a column of the multidimensional array?

You question reminds me that I wrote a little UDF to work with selected parts of 1D to 4D arrays or transpose arrays.
So here's the baby but test it carefully before serious use: I didn't!
The function you need is TablePart AFAICT. Read the comments fully.

EDIT: UDF removed for "maintainance". Found nests of bugs in there

Yes I limited my code at dimension 4 since higher dimensional arrays are fairly uncommon in typical AutoIt applications and then certainly best handled by other languages.

I was just surprised you added support for 4. I can just about work with 3, but dealing with 4 is just hard to compute right now.

Depends on being used to and usefullness in context. But yes 4D is plenty enough for most uses even if AutoIt allows up to 64D.
I found the array manipulation functions to be lacking ... rightly sub-array extraction so I wrote this. That was before I actually had a real-world use for AutoIt so the code may be primitive, up to buggy who knows?

ANSWER: I for one do now know! It was buggy as hell. Will fix someday.
